View Full Version : [Bobba] Lack of new hobbas

Its been like 10 months since the last hobba batch was released. Whats with this massive gap? We really need some new ones, calls for help responses are majorly slow from 5pm onwards and alot of mine are constantly getting missed.
Back when Becs was head hobba new hobbas were hired on an almost monthly basis and people could get quick reponses to their applications, some even made it from application to silver badge within 3-4 weeks.
I think its about time we got some new hobbas, yeah with alot of applications coming in its gona take a while between the batches but i think 10 months is just getting beyond a joke....

I do think that we need some new hobbas, as when you search some of their names they have not been online for quite awhile. I would have thought most hobbas would have been through college and starting to have a life :)
Just to tell you hobbas do not actually need to come to you to deal with a CFH they can do it remotley. This is why mostly you do not see a hobba, or they may have thought that no action is needed.

I know that, but in certains cases you can tell your calls aren't being answered because say you report someone for something that merits a ban (such as giving out their email address) and they are still online an hour afterwards then its obvious your call has not been dealt with.

Some Hobbas and Mods are just plain busy. There are over 100 CFHs that a Hobba or Mod are trying to look after. Some issues aren't as urgent as others. Some Habbos may be having glitches or need support. If you were to ever be a Hobba/Mod, you will find out that it is not just a walk in the park :D
The Habbo Staff may find that the hotel is doing just fine. Other hotels are MUCH worse in terms of breakers of the Habbo way. Hobbas/Mods also won't answer to your calls if you have been using the Call For Help too often.
Just give the Hobbas and Mods a break, they are the ones who are keeping our hotel safe. Just be patient. It may take time for Hobbas or Mods to get to your Call For Help.
Priorities usually goes something like this (1 being most urgent)
1. Scripters
2. Blockers (Usually high up during activities)
3. Asking for cam/messenger
4. Advertising sites that are against the Habbo Way
5. Scammers
6. Swearing/Avoiding filter (Depends on what they say)
7. Flooding
Hobbas may find other things as a lower priority.
Hobbas and Mods want to keep Habbo as age-friendly as possible.
If people breaking the Habbo way bothers you and hobbas/mods don't come, exit the room. If you are talking to friends, try and go into somewhere where you can monitor who is in the room.

You never quoted anyone so i'm presuming this is aimed at me...
I never questioned the amount of work current hobbas / mods are doing, i'm saying they should hire more to aid the current ones because they really are up against now. They've almost cut the hobba team in half in the last year yet very few have came in to take the places of those leaving.
Glitterkat just doesn't seem to like the work involved in hiring new hobbas because she leaves huge gaps between her batches of silvers.

I agree. Something strange is going on with Hobba applications at the moment. I applied 2 years ago, but never heard a thing back, and now my application is deleted, and if I try to apply again I get "sorry you don't pass the initial criteria...". I keep hearing the same 2 explanations for this:
1. Hobbas are going to be scrapped in favour of Habbo X (please god no) so they're not taking any more applications.
2. Hobba applications are "full".
I really hope GK starts going through applications and choosing more Hobbas soon. My aunt was checking out Habbo the other week because her kids use it and she ended up whining to my mum on the phone for ages because apparently the moderation is "appauling". Her kids are banned from using it now until she gets a response from the Habbo Help Tool about why the moderation is so bad and how they will improve it. Yeah, good luck actually getting a response out of that thing.

Nah I was there with him, Mikedude told us that literally. Why would Shane of searched every single Hobba? He isn't one of those people.
And for the topic at hand, Hobbas aren't being replaced but Habbo is very cautious due to recent security breaches. They are becoming a liability, and furthermore they really can't help out as much as they once could (due to Habbo evolving and restrictions). Mods should inevitably replace Hobbas, not temporarily, but indefinitely. Why?! Because Moderators have more power at hand, more experience, and much wiser in years. My solution: Hire more Moderators, it can only result in success.
Hobbas were only created to keep regular Habbos interested, give them a goal to strive for. I got nothing against that but... they just aren't needed anymore.

I thought this might be the case aswell but i emailed becs about it and she said there are no plans to scrap hobbas on the UK hotel in favour of the habbo x system. She said due to "recent events" there has been a delay in hobba recruitment and it should get back to normal eventually.
Hobbas were only created to keep regular Habbos interested, give them a goal to strive for. I got nothing against that but... they just aren't needed anymore.
Sorry but that is complete rubbish, hobbas were created to moderate the hotel and help new users nothing to do with giving habbos a goal.
As for your claim they aren't needed:
Habbo UK is the biggest hotel, it tends to have 9,000 people online at peak times. The hotel could not operate without hobbas and expect to maintain the same level of moderation it has over the last few years. Take the US hotel, it has 5,000 online at peak times (almost half what the UK get) usually and has no hobbas, almost every call for help you send for a rule breaking offense goes unanswered. There is only a certain number of moderators they can hire to keep within budget so its not a simple as just saying "hire more moderators".
Hobbas are needed and always will be needed on the larger hotels if they want to maintain their claim to be a "Safe teen chat site".

I never said they weren't efficient, I stand by my statement. They aren't needed at all. Try reading my whole post, I said hiring Moderators would make up for getting rid of Hobbas. I stated my reasons as to why Moderators are more capable. With the budget thing, I'm sure many would work as volunteer Moderators, it's happened before and it'll happen again, people actually like to help free of charge. I know a few who've actually done this, don't BS about whether they want pay or not, it's irrelevant. Considering Habbo is still a growing business they can definitely use more money on hiring new staff, they are raking in the dollars as we speak.
Ultimately Hobba's have been stripped of almost all power, their only purpose now is to help new Habbo's. I have no problem with this, they want to help?! Good for them. Why not take away the right of banning and have them as permnanent "helpers", I'm sick of the inconsistent equilibrium of the bans I receive. One Hobba sees it this way another that way, I'm tired of the inconsistency, I'm sick of Hobba's altogether, 99% of the time (with me personally) I'm redirected to the front page, that really isn't helpful at all.
I don't have a grudge, I just see things this way.

Agreed, they really can't do much anymore. Replacing them as permanent helpers without banning powers is a great idea.

Hobbas may of, but it's the age limit I was referring to. Back in the day the limit was 16 and they were encouraging people to apply, why?! Because the hotel was near empty, they needed a way to keep users interested. The general gist of being a Hobba relies on moderating the hotel, yep?! Sure. But the idea of having young users as Hobbas was to keep them interested and something to ultimately strive for. They could've quite easily only hired older Hobbas with the same result (maybe even more) but they didn't, it was young user interaction.
As for the thread in whole, Hobba's aren't useless but aren't essential either, they may be in your eyes but not in mine, good day.
Let's see how it goes from here..

Thats exactly what hobbas are already lol, volunteer moderators....
Ultimately Hobba's have been stripped of almost all power, their only purpose now is to help new Habbo's.
They still have the basic powers that allow them to moderate habbo and they still have the same duties as they did in the past. I don't know were your coming up with this "there only here to help new habbos" rubbish as thats not all there here for. They are here to moderate habbo aswell, they have all the moderation tools they need. They've been stripped of one or two things, most of which were not essential to them anyway.

Although you've claimed you have no grude against hobbas you also stated "I'm sick of the inconsistent equilibrium of the bans I receive." Which suggests to me your views are biast because of a few bans you've recieved.
Obviously Sulake see hobbas as an essential part of their moderation setup or they'd have removed them by now, yet on certain hotels they've started recruiting new ones. Would they do that if they had any plans to remove them in the near future? I think not.

I meant Moderator as in those with Mod- type names. I'm talking about volunteers with the same amount of power as the "Mod-" people, not Hobbas who volunteer to "moderate" the hotel, just a little misunderstanding.

Try checking a recent Hobba booklet for the "newb" comment. It stated there that their main initiative was to help those new to the hotel, second initiative was helping those being harassed. Moderators deal mostly with experienced players.
They've been stripped of a lot of things, it's because of this that I doubt their effectiveness now, sad but true in my eyes.

Nah I don't have a grudge. My opinion was bias but I never denied that, I have nothing against them, I just don't see them as a necessity. The bans made little to no sense, so I'm thinking something might be wrong, not launching an all out assault on all them. It's more of a "concern" than a "grudge".
Essential? If they were truly essential the hotel wouldn't run without them, but you fail to see there have been times with no hobbas/all debadged and the hotel ran fine. They can be useful, but never essential.
Hey, I don't know if they can be as effective with recent restrictions, I just don't know. Either way I can sleep well at night, life goes on.

For the record, all that is directed towards those with Mod- names, not Hobbas who moderate the hotel.
I'm sick of the inconsistent equilibrium of the bans I receive
I'm tired of the inconsistency, I'm sick of Hobba's altogether
With these,
Grudge = A deep-seated feeling of resentment or rancor
It may showcase my dislike for them, but it's not an utmost feeling of resentment, I've pointed out Hobba's good points out in the past and my thoughts of those things haven't changed. Positive comes with the negative, I have taken an insight on both, and yes I'm still bias in this thread.
I meant to say I have nothing against them personally, not nothing against them at all.
