Don't be afraid
Some new users are afraid to point out flaws in an alt because their new, don't be. Some users think theyre post count makes them superior but its not true, report any abuse you may get but you'll soon get a reputation for being honest and thats whats important when rating alts and offering help.
Always offer constructive criticism
''needs shading 3/10'' is not constructive. You need to be specific, if the person who made it knew where to add shading they would of before they posted it wouldn't they? So tell them *where*!
Bad reputation
Don't bad rep for bad alts, everyone starts somewhere
DO bad rep for people who steal alterations, reputation is just like in the real world, how people view you, and people will think less of alt theives, so feel free to bad rep if you think you should!
DO bad rep for spammers, those who post a square with nothing done to it and laughing ''hahahaha spam'' etc... they're asking for it really
Rate all the alts you reply to at least once
It SEEMS obvious... but its not.. Heres a general guideline to what most people use as theyre rating scale
Elites - No obvious flaws (or if there are it doesnt matter), a fresh original idea, most of it made from scratch, not ripped
10/10 - No obvious flaws, good idea, most of it from scratch, not ripped, Good shading
9/10 - Almost perfect, this is usually the highest rating given, so don't worry if you only get 9's. It means theres either too many small flaws to give it a perfect score, the shadings not quite right or the ideas been done too many times before!
8/10 - Good idea, shading, and alot of effort put in but can be improved, perhaps a better idea or shading, shading is what lets most people down!
7/10 - Simple idea but well executed, almost flawless
6/10 - Good, this means someone likes your alt but thinks its pretty flawed, or perhaps shadingless!
5/10 - Anything below 5/10 implies you could or should redo the alt, working from what you already have.
3/10 - Anything below 3/10 means you haven't used shading or colours right, it could be unrecognisable as whatever its supposed to be or if your rude in your posts this can sometimes lower your ratings :o
0/10 - For people who spam the forum with black scribbles etc.
Critical Thinking
I know its difficult but when posting your new alt be HONEST. If you know it lacks shading but you've worked hours on it and now your tired of the project so you've stopped and decided to post it, say that. People respect honesty and its really annoying to have people patronize you saying ''oh it needs shading'' when you already know that! Never ask for your work to be moved for elites ;)
Beginners
If someones not doing very good alts they may be new to alting, give them tips but if they are new I tend to rate them based on how creative they were when they were working on it and theyre ideas.
I felt some people needed a guide lol.
