I don't think anyone would sell steel plates...so you'd really have to buy the steel bars, which will come to more than double what you get for alching them.
Your best bet is to either buy yew longs at 500-600each, or yew logs (300 each) and bowstrings (100-150 each) and get a fletcher to fletch them for you (I have 77 fletching, hint hint) I'd fletch them for you if i have time, and not doing anything.

Just buy one of each item, then alch and see which is better.
