Theres two theories behind this...Religion would see it that the Chicken came first as God was the creator of all living. Then theres the scientifical theory, the egg will have come first due to that being the only way of evolving into a chicken.

ok an animal could have evolved into a chicken and miraculously started laying eggs. It probably got puzzled itself as to what it was laying.

Or some freakish reject of an animal layed an egg by accident somehow after a bit of a struggle and then out popped this wierd little bird ( do you think this animal thought it looked the same if it had never seen itself before?)
