:eusa_clap BRAVO!! Hilarious!

Yeah, I'm sick of this emo phase, but it means a lot of music I listen to feels like a secret alternative to all this extremely similar dull music clogging up the charts these days.
I believe they use a lot of octave chords at "fast-paced" speeds, which sounds lame.
I can definately tolerate about one artist, but there's no big thing in it for me.
I don't have a personal grudge with the people who are obsessed wtih the genre of emo, I just think they should.. let's say.. get out a bit more in the world of music.

Emo is my favourite music. It's just amazing how suddenly people call it a phase

definition for you:
A temporary manner, attitude, or pattern of behavior: just a passing phase.

Apparently "real" emo music has been around since the 80's although I never heard of so many bands that were popular that were emo from that period of time.
It is a phase, just like grunge, it will die out.
How sad :eusa_booh

I agree that the genre is getting old fast, not that it was any good anyway. But it isnt the fact that there isnt a solo in most songs or that they use power chords, hell, in one of my favorite albums ever they barely do anything other than powercords, even though it isnt emo. Its the fact that most of the people in them complain about things they think makes their lives the worst ever. People who really do have bad lives dont complain about them. If anyone ever says to you their life ****s, they are just trying to sound cool. People with bad lives dont tell everyone.

in terms of the whole emo genre of music, I like alot of it as long as the lyrics are meaningful - not just some whiney band in the states singing about hacking away at their wrists because they didn't get a date for the prom.

Woah, what a lame comment.
Is that your claim for trying to act more up to date than everyone?
Before you make a statement like that, realise that it's reached peak popularity in recent times.
"OMGZ IT BEEN AROUN 4 20 YRS MAN U GUYZ R SLOW!1!"
Yes but it's a phase people are going through now, if you can prove to me emo has been famous as a genre for that long.
Also as I hear the new music people call "emo" doesn't actually bear any resemblance to the original music released in the genre.

Hmm, I think the first post of the thread indicates why the genre is nothing special.
It's the instrumental ability that also matters.
If teens get a kick out of having songs that have "meaningful" lyrics though good for them, but for me "meaningful" lyrics don't make music.

And that's why I don't say Rhythm and Blues is good instrumentally.
Emo is boring in the instrumental aspect of things.
The craziest thing instrumentally I have ever seen anyone in the subculture of "emo" listen to is Dillinger Escape Plan.
But as far as instrumental ability goes in emo it's pretty non-existant,
they can play their instruments but there are others who can do it much better.
If you ever see an emo music video on TV mute it and watch the band members spontaneously and carelessly throw their instruments around and jump in the air, it looks a little silly.
Also the songs are pretty throwaway.
I'll probably end up listening to very few groups in this genre just because it doesn't hold my attention long enough.

So how old are you? like 13 or something? tell me when you started listeing to 'emo' music please. Punk bands from the 80's like The Se>< Pistols and The Clash were one of the main Punk bands of there time, you grew up from that? maybe not? because emo is where it originated from, its a concoxtion of different music. On an opinion, people sum emo music up to be terrible, i'll hold along those lines because its not my cuppa' tea. Yes, I like Hip Hop, but I'm quite open minded when it comes to music, I like alot of stuff. But you know, hip hop was a fad and still is to some, i'm sure the emo thing will pass.

MasterOfPuppets
10-01-2006, 12:18 AM
The funny thing is, it doesn't matter if it originated from the first wave of punk it still has no resemblance to the music whatsoever.
The Pistols are only legendary just because they were accepted as the first punk band, probably of the British punk scene and The Ramones of the American.
Fact of the matter is that those bands (mainly British punk) really aren't that great, the stir they caused was great but that can't be done anymore so it deems their music useless now.
They also helped completely corrupt the mainstream music scene really, they basically made people think "wow, I can do this too!" which spawned so many punk bands that weren't even punk.
Later on Nirvana who were influenced by The Pistols also helped ruin music even more by being a big force in the grunge movement, which had no controversial messages.
Punk basically tried to kill prog rock really.
The whole Never Mind the ******** album was great, but influential in the wrong ways.
Look now we've got Green Day trying to be the next Pistols but they can't create a stir with their messages so they're pointless.
