LOL It's not a robot its a big puff of black smoke it drags people away and causes those big monster noises and explosions

Yeah, a security doo-dad. It scanned Mr.Eko, finding out his past. Thats what all the flashes inside the 'Monster' were.
I guess it didn't take him because he had a bad past :s and tried to take Locke because he was good..hmm.

Yeah i watched that episode a while ago. The black smoke seems to make robotic-insect noises.

Yea those noises are like creepy , you actually saw the monster in the first season when Locke got pulled away you saw the black smoke but it was'nt as big and you did'nt see it as much until you see it with Mr.Eko
