Windows meida player is on vertaly every PC by defult exspet a few obscure ones the EU forced microsfot to cut it out of, but those are rair, and never realy board. I dont use windows meida anyway, it sucks. Media Player Classic all the way, far superior, cuts out all the crap and is a solid, stable and highly functal program that plays anything from real media formats down to obscure animatsion formats and images "/
VLC is ok alos, but a little unsatbles and worse comes to worst theres always winamp "/

Hey,
I know for a fact Windows Media Player isn't vulnerable otherwsie Microsofts Technet would have had something up about it and seeing as I whats there everyday I would have known.
The reason you probably have a virus is from your music file like your probably downloading from Warez or a Torrent which contain virus's etc.
