Hey,

If you want a 3D Avatar chat like Habbo Hotel or Runescape then you need to code in such advanced languages such as:

Lingo
Java

These are perhaps some of the most difficult languages to normally learn. You also have to pay these sort of programmers a lot.

ok thanks dan, i am willing to pay to learn this type of stuff, and there are a few courses down at the local college to do with lingo, and one with flash, lingo is expensive but i am willing to pay
:)

You can find that lingo tutorials can be found around the internet for free. Maybe I shouldnt say this but you can also download great tutorials off limewire or any other p2p software. Obviosily free legal tutorials ;)

Hey,

To be honest downloading off a P2P is stupid.

Because when you pay for legal courses with experienced lingo coders you are guarenteed to learn something,

While on the other hand if you download off Limewire or something it will probably be some 14 year old Code sniffer. And then a nice binded trojan to mess up your computer :)

True dan, thats what wil probably happen, also i would prefer somebody teaching me, other than reading from a dumb old text document or w/e

Hey,

Yeah I agree totally. I mean when learning things I seem to teach myself by reading and experimenting but having an experienced coder there to guide you makes it a hell of a lot easier.

What exsactly makes the advanced langwages "/ and Javas a relativly simple one, not BASIC, but no giant leaps "/

it is possible to do it in flash
i reccomend www.electro-server.com
and Macromedia Flash MX 2004 Game Design Demystified

but its not just online games covered its all aspects i find both hugley helpful

Dcr? - There is no such coding, DCR is a Macromedia Director file

Most MMORPGS are coded in Java SYNTAX ( as seen by runescape ). Other MMROPG are based with combinations within Lingo ( such as HabboHotel ). The lingo can be joint up with Fuse LIGHT and other coding; LocZ (etc) Sprite movement so on and so forth.

Flash will never be compatible for making something on a scale such as an MMORPG. Action script is too weak of a source to hold so many handlers and sprite actions within a couple of codes and will suffer major lag within the mmorpg.

Hey,

For you they may be reletivly simple but for me i've found learning Lingo hard. But I don't have the time nor the patience.

Hey,

Theres not many Lingo tutorials around on the web that tell you much. Your best learning it from books.

But for Java and API etc and whatever Java uses there are some interesting tutorials on www.Pixel2life.com

P.S:

Don't double post :)

Ive never learnt lingo or realy worked with it at all so cant comment on that? i was just asking what makes it harder than any other langwage?

API? Thats not a langwage, its a thing? you can utalise Apis in anything from PHP, to well any programming langwage out there. Api or Advanced programming interfaces are basicly just functions that are left exsposed in one application so rather than reinventing the wheel other appications can just use whats already there. Like Winodws for example has tones of API componets u can call to do any number of things, winodows made these so its easyer for deveopers to make apps for winodows etc "/
Or in a javascript example even, u can call on the Google maps API to display any data you wish for your own sites "/

i dont need lingo, all i want is a little flash tut to show me how to make a little multiplayer game or w/e...

Dan Williamson

Hey,

Cheers Mentor for correcting me again all I knew is that API can be used within Java somehow. But i've never really studied Java.

And as for Lingo it's supposed to be hard because of all the coding and sprite stuff but I don't know so I can't comment on it either i've been told that it's a difficult language.

Anyway I plan to learn it at college and maybe start studying more stuff to do with OOP and using it in VB6 and then perhaps move onto things like Lingo, start off easy and then get advanced :)

Edit: Skies there are lots of Flash tutorials to do game creation on Pixel2life.com and also it tells you usually how to do the action script coding.

Some tutorials are actually really helpful but if your a code sniffer who copies and pastes code then they're not really that helpful as you don't learn nothing.

Also on Macromedia.com there are quite a few Video Tutorials which are done by the developers themselves so check that out as well.

hey guys, seen as we have been talking bout computer languages i was just wondering, im just making a little flash movie, Little Stick men one, just to fiddle round with all of the tools and that, well i create a stick man doing a circle with motion teen, and set it to CW so it goes round in a circle, like it looks like its doing a backflip, but when i do it, it looks awful jumpy, no wot i mean, like you get those flash movies, with smooth movements and everything, but when i do the motion tween , its like sorta jumpy, any idea how to make it smoother

thanks x

Hey,

Have you coded it and perhaps debugged it. Sorry if i'm chatting total nonsense lol i'm a newcomer to Flash.

- Dan

Php

coded and debugged it?, u dont need to code it or debug it, its just simple tools, and it all works fine no errors, its supposed to be jumpy, but ther must be another way to make it run smoother the movie, the movies fine its just the character goes jumpy, is there some sort of actionscript or w/e

thanks x

Hey,

Thats what I meant about coding the actionscripting and I know a lot of things like this have a debugging section.

Try searching it.

I wasn't being a smart a** as I was simply pointing out some basic knowledge of Lingo... ;)

Well firstly, speed up the fraime rate, then use more frames in the tween, the more stadges of movement there are, the smoother it will be :D
