What is this proposal about?:This is a proposal to replace the reputation system. (It's common (In VB forums and isn't unique) and I think it causes more trouble than it's worth).
My proposal is to change to my new *Star System*

Star System?!: Star System?! What the hell is that? I'm sure you're all thinking that, right? Well carry on reading and you'll find out.

Can't people just disable their reputation?: Sure they can, but where is the fun in that? People recieve bad reputations and yes, they can be removed but it's hella' annoying and so on and I think this would be more 'fun' to the members at Habbox forum.


Okay, well the *Star System* is a bit like the repbar under your username... You know the Green little points that fill in as you get post. I want to replace them with stars! (I'm sure you're thinking now, "Stars! Wth is this due on?!") Well yeah, I'm on coke... [Sips coke through straw] xP

What you would do to gain a star is reach a certain amount of posts and then you would gain certain features like be able to edit a custom username, be able to ask for a name change. (Of course, if you're VIP you can just ask to have it changed anyway). xP

Great Idea, Well planned out. But I doubt it'll replace the Reputation system. Also as Infrontation said, its only based on posts and isnt really like Rep, so alot more people would be spamming just to get more, As Xuzuno said.

Yeah, I was trying to incorprate a way to 'giving someone a good rep' to increase the star by a certain ammount and then it slowly fills up... But that sounded stupid...

Well if people spam more, SM's/Admins can just delete that thread/post and if it was server and constant they could delete a chunk of the users posts as a penalty.

Hmm... yeah, first you should get an admin to read this :P But I've still got doubts.

I think there should just be extra rep bonus's for different things. like... If you make a thread which attracts so many replies,i.e. 500 repliers = 5 automatic rep points. Or the rating system in threads. If this averagees like 4.0+ then a few rep points can be added.

Like where we now have newbie / greater member / senior member and the usertitle pictures, we could do instead a system with stars. And maybe we can even make it so that higher posts ranks gives some extra privileges like editing own post, though i dont think that is possible to allow that for certain groups only.

The only parts I dont like is:
1. Encourage Spam. But id banned/cautioned/reduced, they might spam more on a new account
2. I dont like it how different groups have privilages. E.g Edit Posts. That would cause more spamming by people saying: Sorry double posted, I was meant to put[BlahBlah]. And Newbies dont know about the Double Posting rule, unless they read the rules.

1-100 posts - Your posts are quite nooby
101-500 posts - Your posts are thought carefully
501-1000 posts - Your posts are on topic and you think before posting
1000+ - You post a lot and some are pointless
2000+ - Your posts normally consist of utter jibberish rubbish which nobody really cares about, you most probably use the word 'pls' excessively and you are reliable for most of the spam on this forum.

Not saying everyones like this, it's just a very usually correct stereotype i have. I think it's a good idea, but for some people with high post counts i wouldn't want to reward their *cough*meaningful*cough* posts at all.

Why would this replace the rep system? Theres are Post Ranks? Most places have both "/ why would u want two diffent levles for the same thing

Well the idea's changed now, it would replace the custom thing which changes underneath your name. (Where it says member, Habbox Elite) etc...

And like I aid, it was only a rough idea.

I think the majority of active users buy V.I.P and choose to change there user title to something more custom. I don't think replacing that would dramatic.

All rewards have same problems, u do it for how long there here maybe? Then you may be familiar with the name DarkWaltz4? I customised this hack to my VB forum back in Version 2.0.0 and I could easily do it again for the current version.

Oh and and woe, it's not quite, they only have 3 star things, it repersents their satus on the website, Bronze, silver and gold. (Like V.I.P).

It's perfectly do-able.

aww man, when I read this I thought it was a new idea, but it's just the default thing they have on most forums. The rep system was made as an IMPROVEMENT on the star system. with the star system the more posts you have the more stars you have the more popular you are. but with the rep system even if you have a large post count it doesn't mean your popular, you only get popular from people rewarding you on good posts, and making it known when you make a bad post.

The only flaw with the rep system is some people take advantage of it, ways of doing this, mainly is done with the VIP's. VIP's get the ability to see who reps them, which means most people are afraid to give a VIP a bad rep pount if they have high rep, because they will bad rep them back, and it will destroy their rep power. Other people take advantage of this by giving everyone a good rep in hopes that they will rep back, thus increasing their rep, so they can become power hungry one day.

PS: It is sad how important rep power is to so many people, who really cares if you have a big bunch of rep power, it's the person that matters, not how much power they have. esspecially seeing as how theres so many ways of cheating the rep system, that pretty much anyone can get a high rep if they really wanted it. For some reason everyone wants that power. Rep power means so much to people, that they will base their opinions on someone souly based on how much rep they have.

Hmm, I don't really like the idea, this only causes more troubles, because with the reputation system you can't rep somebody twice in a row, or soon after you repped some other people.
Your proposal doesn't only encourage to spam but also many people will just post in every possible thread and don't look back at it but just to avoid spamming they post something.

I dont really like the idea of basing it on posts as it would encourage more spam to get up to the post limit for a rank. It also does not show how trusted a person is, but how many times they post. I dont like the idea of having to reach 700 posts for a custom sig/avvy (it seems pointless). Im sorry for negative but thats what i feel

Because it's not constumary to have this, it would have to be installed. But it would be based on the number of posts. (It can be editable).

Actually I believe it's already installed. It would be just like the whole Newbie -> Member -> Greater Member etc. scheme except the titles could stay the same but there could be a couple of ranks for each for each new star and that usergroup could have additional abilities. Also it is possible to set it so that a user is automatically promoted into the next group at X posts. So we don't need a hack.

I'm not too keen on the original thing though, especially as its based on posts and we have enough spammers as it is. Also, its to replace the reputation system but its not even close to being based on the same principle? Rep is based on your creditability (though its kinda changing with the "technicques" of our members.)

Well, couldn't it be customised to reputation points and maybe replace the images? Like instead of the little green bars, we have the stars? Or maybe just add that in as something else. I just think it would give the forum a little spark. ^^
