How come all of a sudden everyone is making them? What do they make them with? Are some of them just scams?

Most of them are usually coded in either Actionscript or Macromedia Director and Lingo.

There are other ways to code them but these would win in most times. It takes a lot of money and patience and skill to create an online virtual chat.

99% its noobs who want to achieve fame / Wannabe habbos. Thing is, they'll never actually achieve this. For a start, they're posting for staff on a 12 - 17 year olds forum. Now, who exactley is skilled at lingo programming on this site apart from craig

Best chance is to learn professionaly. Ask your ICT teacher if he knows where you can learn. Buy books, or rent fromt he library. Get tutored by an expert :P (Costs money obviously)

-Sigh- why start when Lingo will be thrown out of the window soon for Flash.

I was destroyed when I found out, So if you are learning, I would quit whilst you are ahead.

So you reccomend learning flash, is there anywhere i can learn how to make them using flash, and sites e.t.c, books

I suggest learning C# and DirectX

as that will be the most powerfull' when Lingo gets replaced by Flash Media Server 2.

Isnt direct X a API ?

I think it is, but I think there is a way of intergrating two codes into it enabling to run a multiserver game off it. It will be complex, and easily expliotable, so hopefully they do keep Director.

Well, If macromedia is anything like Bill Gates, I think they will go through with the change. But one thing that's been sticking inside my head is that its a coding, therefore it cannot just be deleted.

I dont know exactly what to do as Lingo may be completely out in a couple of years, and Flash may over rule it with new commands and extra parts extended to it making it more of a rich text.

I dont think it will be suddenly wiped out but i belive adobes approach is to create a 'super' product (flash) that you can use to make like anything cant wait for the nxt v of flash

There are some nice open source client/server apps out there, which are usually editable in C++ and VB. These arn't browser based tho.

That's how I may run my game. I am going to probably build it myself though, and get people to help after atleast some of it is finished.

Yeah, I may be starting to learn VB or Actionscript, as I can create 1 player sprite games.

Simple but effective, I still have a game that is a sprite game! I wonder if anyone can remember the NES? or I may be pushing it, The Sinclaire?
