PHP in my opinion is one of the easiest languages to learn, so you might aswell atempt at making your own.

I disagree with that, I would use techtut's' for the time being, then learn PHP through it, dont just copy and paste it. cheating!

Once you have grasped PHP and MySQL, then change the layout of the system and change the whole function as it could save you some time in the long run, and also include some little features for members of the system.

Yep.. true and too many people use it "/ its impersonal as hell.. also php is such an easy language to learn and can revolutionise the way in which you approach making a site and once you have the ability it makes your site way more interactive.

As I currently have no idea what you are on about I am very confused.

I suggest reading up on basic PHP syntax and then look into intergrating MySQL with PHP.
