Sony has stopped all production of its original PlayStation console, turning towards the future and the PlayStation 3. Last September, the PlayStation (and the PSone redesign, pictured above) surpassed 100 million units sold and continues to be a popular item around the world. While, the PlayStation's 11-year-plus production run was impressive, the Atari 2600 topped that marked, as it was released in 1977 and not pulled out of production until 1991.

GDC: Pocket-Sized Revolution

Revolution Report has snagged some pics of the Revolution on display at GDC, including this comparison with the DS. Either the photographer is manipulating our perspective, or that baby is gonna fit in our pockets!

Revolution Report does note that this prototype appears to be thicker than the model shown at E3 and TGS last year — so, maybe it won't be pocket-sized after all. Also worth mentioning is the absence of the mysterious port on the console's backside.

Virtual Console: Sega and Hudson games are a go!

To be more specific, the "best" titles from the Sega Genesis and the TurboGrafx will be available on the system's download service. Well, I guess that's not very specific at all. Regardless, I believe I speak for everyone when I say: Holy yes!

Nintendo Wi-Fi propagates in UK, Ireland

While Europe may have to wait a few more months for a new, WiFi-enabled DS game, Nintendo UK and BT Openzone are giving DS gamers something to love in the meantime. The two companies today announced 600 new wireless hot spots in retail outlets all across the United Kingdom and Ireland. Of those WiFi-enabled stores, over 500 of those will feature Download Stations where gamers can download new demos (which Nintendo promises to update every month).

The hot spots and Download Stations will be found in GAME, Gamestation, HMV, Toys 'R US, Smyths Toys and a few smaller retailers throughout the UK and Ireland, with the stations currently offering demos of Meteos, Polarium, and Miyamoto's nintendog 'Pic'--not the best selection, but soon the stations will offer demos of Pokemon Link, Brain Training, and Trauma Center, along with some Animal Crossing goodies.

First X-Men screens surface for 360

Activision is giving the mutant-loving populace a glimpse of next gen visuals for the upcoming X-Men 3: The Official Game. The screens look pretty, but it would have been nice if they had released more than three. It's hard to tell how much of a visual upgrade this is from the current gen systems without more to compare.

Set for May availability on all major platforms, X-Men 3 features the writing talents of X-movie scribe Zak Penn and legendary X-Men author Chris Claremont. In addition to explaining Nightcrawler's absence from the movie, maybe they'll finally explain how Iceman and his ice slide continue to defy gravity.
