no scotlandd i took this off my home page ;

Samples from the swan found dead in the Cellardyke area of Fife in Scotland were being sent for analysis at the EU's bird flu laboratory in Weybridge, Surrey, to check for the H5N1 strain of the virus, the European Commission confirmed.

If the deadly strain is confirmed, the UK will be the 13th EU country hit by the virus since the current outbreak began.

Liberal Democrat leader Sir Menzies Campbell, in whose constituency the bird was found, said he would follow the situation "very closely".

"I have spoken directly to the Minister, Ben Bradshaw, who has told me there cannot be final confirmation until Thursday," he said.

"I have his assurance that all necessary steps will be taken and that there is no health risk to humans.

"I shall obviously be monitoring events very closely when I return to Scotland."

Meanwhile, precautions already agreed by all EU member states in the event of an outbreak or suspected outbreak were being put in place around Cellardyke.

They involve a 3km deep "protection zone" and a "surveillance zone" a further 7km.

A Commission statement said: "In the protection zone, poultry must be kept indoors, movement of poultry is banned except directly to the slaughterhouse and the dispatch of meat outside the zone is forbidden except where products have undergone the controls provided for in EU food controls legislation, for example meat sourced from animals on registered farms, subject to ante and post mortem checks by vets in the slaughterhouse.

"In both the protection zone and the surveillance zone, on-farm biosecurity measures must be strengthened, hunting of wild birds is banned and disease awareness of poultry owners and their families must be carried out."

Pmsl there's not that much to worry about yet really. Bird Flu is harmless to us humans aslong as the virus doesn't mutate into a human form of the flu.

Whys everyone like so worried about it? It's only seeing you lot worried that makes me worried. I don't think anything of it. They aren't even sure that it even is bird flu yet, so don't run round like headless chickens ;)

Even if it is bird flu, there's not much to worry about anyway. The strain will have to change its composition before entering into humans bodies ;) I'm not too worried, and just don't think anything of it. The government are doing something about it, it's not likely that you'll get it anyway.

the flu itself is not known if it can transform into a human virus it may only live inside birds for the next couple of years etc

There are plenty of desies your far more likly to catch which are far more fatal than bird flu, plus you have more chance of being run over by a car over a 1000 times than you do of even catching a none deadly strain....
