It may seem that Brazil have already won the tornament and nobody's arrived yet! But thanks to FourFourTwo I have five reasons why Brazil will NOT win the world cup! You may think twice on putting your money on the Slik South Americans ;)
Reason 1- History will repeat itself
Not since 1962 has Brazil won the world cup as favourites. The '94 team that won the world cup were unfancied, the '98 team that were favourites lost in the final, and the team that was in crisis in '02 won. This time Brazil ARE favourites so history tells us they won't win.
Brazil, bar Sweden 1958, have never won a tornament in Europe, and have never defended a World Cup in Europe. Another factor is that Brazil have to win this world cup 'spectactularly', a feeling of deja vu in '82, which included an all-star line up of Socrates, Zico + Falcao.
Reason 2- the FIFA Conspiracy
On route to the ast two World cup wins for Brazil, crucial decisions have gone their way. In '94 with a dodgy offside dission against Holland, and in '02 when Marc Wilmots goal for Belgium was ruled out, both decisive in Brazil qualifying for the next round. Both these matches had referees from Carribean countries, who more likely to side with Brazil.
But there is a problem, Teixeira the Brazilian Football Confederation boss is known to be competeing for position as FIFA president, if Brazil win the world cup his position will be strengthened. Also if Brazil win in Germany, it is likely they wil win in South Africa (same climate) and after that it is likely to be played in Brazil (home advantage). FIFA would not want the WorldCup to become predictable, thus FIFA may lean on referee's to give 50/50 decissions against Brazil.
Reason 3- CBF want money not world cups
In '98 it was Nike that persuaded the CBF to play an unfit Ronaldo in the final, and in March Brazil played a weird frinedly in Russia, at -20*C. This had been set up by a large Brewing company trying to expand in Eastern Europe. Who's to say this tornament we won't have the same scenario, if Ronaldinho is half fit, will he play?
Reason 4- Brazil's own demons
Brazil know they are favourites, and there is a problem with complacency. Brazilian players will be targetted by opposion players and by the press. Things such as loud music near Brazils hotel and rumours about players personal lives will be seen, to try and put the team off.
Reason 5- Don't Believe the hype
The Brazilian press call it the Bermuda triangle. Dida in goal, who has been less than convincing this season, Cafu and Roberto Carlos, two ageing full backs.
Towards Dida, there is a bit of racist superstion. The last time Brazil had a black keeper, the keeper made a mistake that knocked them out of the world cup. He also has been dodgey in goal for AC Milan, making critical mistakes.
Carlos (33 by the World Cup) and Cafu (36 by the World Cup) are becoming less engergetic and not as sharp as they used to be.
The Centre Backs and Emerson and Ze Roberto in Midfield are average players, and some press feel even the strikers have lost their groove.
Remeber '02, Lucio made a mistake that let Michael Owen through, who's to say he won't do the same.
There's my five reasons, thanks to 442 magazine. It just shows it isn't all going Brazil way ;) Let's hope this is right!
