PayPal - Is It Trusted?

Recently, I have discovered some cool stuff I want to buy on Ebay, but my Mum won't let me use her credit card number. I told her it is safe, but she wants proof.
I showed her PayPal.com and she seems to think it is safe. But, just to back me up, can you tell me how safe it is, and how I can put money in the PayPal account if my Mum lets me create an account.

You don't put money in PayPal, it simply takes the money out of your account and transfers it to the recipients bank account. However, the recipient DOES NOT SEE your credit/debit card number, find your address* or your personal details.

The only thing the recipient sees is your email address. However, they can't use this to buy something because they need your password.

When PayPal email you, they will ALWAYS use your full name. Spoof emails come from domains like @paypal.com, if they don't say "Dear John Smith" or whatever, it isn't from them.

All in all, Paypal is safe and trusted providing you don't do anything stupid.

*Paypal does not give your address, but if you are buying on eBay you will be required to give the recipient your address.

I use it very regurley, especially on eBay in which i just bought two things.

umm its safe from hackers etc (if you're careful not to get keylogged)

i wouldnt ever use them again. lots of people (including me) have my account froze and money taken out without a real explanation ("for my own safety" apparently) and then they threaten to file a lawsuit against me asking for the money back cause they left it in minus money :$

its great using it until they start threatening you with law suits, then dont reply to any email you send them trying to sort out the situation :P

The system itself is safe, but as Seacat said, sometimes PayPal just freeze accounts.
