it seems quite common. some 360s were rushed and a lot of heating problems are occuring.

Nope and I suggest you don't throw it out the window! :P
i had the same problem all you gotta do is ring up tech support (number is in ur booklet) if you havent registered they can do it ova the fone. they will send u a shipping lable (got mine from ups). rap your 360 up in loads of bubble rap n stuff n put in a cardboard box then ring ups up or who ever n they will come n collect it.
i got a brand new 360 with in 5 days.
p.s save all your games off your hard drive, they give u a new hardrive

Hint.. XBOX 360's wires are murked off and the wires overheat in 30 mins..
Play for more than 1 hour it'll set fire.
Mine has been overheating a lot, I regret getting a 360.. hopefully Halo 3 comes out soon.

Lmao. Using the words "murked off" and then trying to tell people some incredibly stupid theories of yours isn't exactly helpful. 360's do not set on fire, and there's no big problems with the wires. If they set on fire in an hour then I must have missed something during my 6 hour marathons of Oblivion.
The 360 overheats sometimes, and there are a few faulty systems out there. It's no big deal - Microsoft has done a stellar job in replacing all faulty units and in some cases providing free controllers and games for those who have been inconvenienced by the problems. It's going to be no different with the PS3, especially seeing as it uses even more unproven hardware (namely the Blu-Ray drive).

Dude Its Sounds Like It Needs A Clean. Or Its OverSpeeding.
Leave It For About A Day.
Then Give it A Clean.
then Put A Blank Disc In For About 5 Minutes. Leave It For A Day And t Should Be Fine,
