What do you guys think of dating people younger/older than you?
I'm personally in a long term relationship with a girl one year younger than me. For some reason I sorta think it's fine for girls to date older guys, but I think it would be weird for a girl to date younger guys...? lol
I think its wrong if a girl was like 12 and she was dating a 20 year old...

I think an age difference of 1-3 is fine. But usually the guy has to be the older one :P

Yer same. I think like, 1, 2, or 3 year differences are okay for younger people (for example a 16 year old dating an 18 year old) but like Harrison said, 5+ year differences are wrong.

Lol yeh I agree. Like a couple of years isn't really bad, but I can't say I've ever really known a girl to date a younger guy... mainly the other way about :S

I have an aunt, she's older than her husband by a year. 1-3 age differences are fine.

Older people is fine. My mums 40 and my step-dads 30.
But 1-3 is good for younger people.

Yehh I think when your older [In 20's+] it's not as such a big deal.
Like if a 30 year old woman married a 36 year old man, it would be fine... but if a 13 year old girl was in a relationship with a 19 year old boy... it'd be completely different! ;p

The last person i dated was younger by two years.
I thought it was alright, but i was a bit embaressed at times when people asked how old he was and stuff, because some people thinks its strange.
The older guys i have dated have only been older by a few months.

When you get older, age gaps don't matter so much. A gap of 8 years in a couple aged 42 and 50 isn't uncommon, but a 12 year old and someone who's 20 would be seen as wrong, because of the maturity and development stages of each person.

Its not if its right or wrong, its a matter of opinion. When your younger its normally best to date people withing the same soert of age region as you, as sometimes if can cause problems for others. But as you get older, you tend not to worry about age.
My step mum and my dad have 11 years age difference. My dads 39 and my step mum is 28.

Age is just a number at the end of the day. It shouldn't matter if the couple are in love.

If one of the people involved is too young to understand what they're doing then it's wrong, other than that I'll agree.

Nah, as long as it makes you happy and both of you are comfortable with it - then who cares what other people think? :]

Not when your older..
20 and 25 doesn't seem that bad, does it?
20 and 28 doesn't seem bad either.

It depends how old you are. I mean, if you're 9, and your boyfriend is 15, that sounds really weird, but if you're 40 and your boyfriend is 46 then it doesnt. Normally you have more in common with people you're the same age as, as you remember the same stuff from when you were younger.

I think even with teens/twenties a large age gap makes quite a difference. I know a girl who's 16 and has a 24 year-old boyfriend, they're happy together and all that jazz but understandably her mum isn't too pleased (her mum's boyfriend is only a few years older than hers!) yet a gap of 8 years would mean nothing later in life.

I think it's strange for a girl to date a younger guy, I wouldn't do it myself.
But i think big age gaps are alright, because once the couple are older nobody would say a word against it.

i think maybe a year younger/older is ok under age of 16.
After age of 16 age gap doesnt really matter.

Okay, basically we have came to the conclusion that the majority of us feel that it is okay for any gender to date the other whether they be older or younger. A lot of you think that the age doesn't count, as long as it isn't a giant age gap, for example 15 - 30, and both parties are aware of the age difference and are consenting. It also seems that age is more of an important factor for a younger generation, but not so much older.
Thanks for taking part in this forum, and helping come to this conclusion! :]
