Do YOU use Yahoo! or some sort of email service?
A new worm that targets Yahoo! email users is on the loose, taking advantage of a Javascript flaw.
Yahoo!, being world's largest email services provider said on Monday that only "a very small fractions" has been infected. But is that true?
The Yamanner worm targets all versions of Yahoo! web-based mail except the latest beta version, Symantec said in an advisory released on Monday. This virus infects computers when users merely read an email, rather than opening an attachment.
This worm landed in Yahoo! mailboxes bearing the subject line "New Graphic Site". Once opened, the message infects the computer and spreads to other users listed in Yahoo! users' email address books.
The worm, which was spotted in the wild early this morning, has hit the remote server more than 100,000 times, forwarding Yahoo! email addresses harvested from unsuspecting users.
Actions to be taken
It is adviced for the Yahoo! email users to update virus and firewall software on their computers and to block any email sent from av3[at]yahoo.com.
