England 1-0 Ecuador
(Beckham)

England's performance was bitter once again. They once again showed us what they can't do. And that is score without the aid of a set-piece. It was David Beckham's 1st goal in thirteen games. He hasnt scored from a free-kick for over 3 years. Time to get rid? I think so!

Player Report

Paul Robinson
Over-estimated the importance of this goalkeeper. He's the only one england have left. Made a good save towards the end.
Ashley Cole
Brilliant performance all-round. Easily the best player that England played today. Got up well aswell.
Rio Ferdinand
Seemed to me like he was still slightly injured. Didn't stand out as one of the better players.
John Terry
Poor balls back left Terry isolated and tried to hard to find a foul in a tackle by the Ecuadorian forwards.
Owen Hargreaves
Didn't fit in at the back. Doesnt usually play at the back. Didn't get the full force of attack he's used to.
Michael Carrick
Played well as a holding midfielder. Although some of his passes went stray. He did his job.
David Beckham
Although he scored the goal, I think his performance was another poor one. Time to retire?
Frank Lampard
Missed a clear-cut chance infront of goal. Didn't perform well. Another player who needs a goal.
Steven Gerrard
Another player who is playing well. He made some great passes and made some great tackles.
Joe Cole
Wasn't outstanding today. His performance against Sweden never carried on today.
Wayne Rooney
Still hasn't scored. Some great chances for him to get a goal. I think Mr.Walcott or Mr.Crouch may want to stand-up.
The Referee
A couple of appeals for handball put down by the referee in Ecuador's favour. Apart from that, he had a good match.

Overall
A re-make of '66? I think not. If England carry on like this then Holland or Portugal, who play tonight, will test the England defence who a far the best part of the team.

I don't agree with many of your comments about the players.

Second half Ferdinand played very well and kept Ecuadors main striker quiet.

I also felt Carrick was the best player on the pitch as he kept the ball passed it well and gave the baal away once :l

Rooney played very well for someone thats had 3 matches, he created numerous chances out of nothing and a lot of the time he was isolated. I never really saw a striking oppurtunity for Rooney really.

Owen Harvgreeves did fit in and he went well forward. I felt he was forced to hold back as Beckham wasn't playing well and leaving Hargreeves with two men.

This match was an improvement, England created many chances to score from open play but people (lampard) missed them. Once again Beckham delivers us a goal when we need it, he didn't play well but he got the goal we needed

Cumec, sorry i also don't agree with some of your Comments especially the 1's about David Beckham.

I know he's had a few bad games but his Free Kicks are good, his long range passing is good...

David Beckham, I think, was the worst player.

He scored, that's what boosted his ratings. What has he done since Argentina @ '02? Nothing.

Agree'd, he used to be ok. Now, the fact he doesnt play 1st team football much in the Premiera Liga has been somewhat of a letdown for him.

Beckhams presence in the team gives me a lift and im sure everyone elses in England most of our goals have come/been from him so why do you not rate him? I thought he had a decent game and he is a vauluable asset to the squad.

The fact that he played even though he was ill showed passion but then again maybe poor judgement someone would say.

You what has he done since the Argentina match '02, well he's set up numerous goals in the qualifying stages for euro 04 and world cup 06. He's scored goals, at times been the best player on the pitch. I felt Lampard contributed less to the team this tornmaent than Beckham so if anyone should be axed its him...

Carrick was easily the best player on the pitch, Ashley Cole only made a huge impact when deflecting the shot onto the bar.
John Terry had a 50-50 game, the header that created Ecuador's only real chance was poor; and the yellow card was a disgrace. But well done to him for being the temp c'ptn for the last few minutes.

David Beckham had a average game, yes he scored a fantastic free-kick, but he was becoming flaggy straight after scoring it. But he was a great morale booster to the team.

Wayne Rooney had a horrid first half, causing little damage to the Ecuadorians. But the second half he really picked up when they were feeling tired and nearly punished them twice.

Frank Lampard, yet again missed numerous chances, but did play well in the midfield position, whereas his fellow CMF, Steven Gerard played much better attackingly; and deserved a freekick at the very least at the beginning of the second half.

Just my thoughts though. We all have different opinions obviously.

Lampard does play well, but he missed a few too many goals for my liking. Stevie G was behind him in one and had Lampard left it, i'm sure Gerrard would have scored it.
