David Beckham has stepped down as England captain, it was on sky sports just a minute ago, he says that he had come to the decission before the world cup started and that himself and his family both agree that he should step down.

Who do you think should be the next England Captain?

I think John Terry.

I think Terry too, he is a great captain for Chelsea.
But then again maybe Neville; kind of like the senior figure for the team...

Oh and your avatar is pretty damn good x]

Terry or Gerrard

I wouldnt pick Gerrard, he never seems to perform for England as he does for Liverpool.

Here is what Beckham said:

Having been captain for 58 of my 95 caps I feel the time is right to pass on the armband as we enter a new era under Steve McLaren. I want to stress that I wish to continue playing for England. I came to this decision some time ago but hoped to announce it on the back of a successful World Cup."

He doesn't perform for England like he does for Liverpool because he is always playing in an unbalanced midfield picked by a clueless manager.

Terry or Gerrard for me, I'd probably go with Gerrad. He can take games by the scruff of the kneck and rally the players. Istanbul for example.

terry or gerrard, they are the two natural captains in the side, i dont think anyone else fits the bill

Terry is probably the main man for the job, although McLaren may choose a player that has not yet been a captain.. ;)

Neville or maybe even our goalie Paul Robinson.Neville was a disgraceful captain yesterday. If Beckham was still on the field, you would place a safe bet on him taking Rooney to 1 side as soon as the incident happened, so he wouldn't get sent off.

Where was Gary Neville? I think he was getting a drink & orders off the management.

John Terry, Rio Ferdinand or Steven Gerard should captain the squad.

Why pick Rio? He's always determined, he rarely makes mistakes, he's dedicated, he's calm.

John Terry is a great premiership player, but unfortuantly the international play isn't made in the same way, so he's more liable to get banned.

Just my opinion.

yeah it'll all be different.

New player, new captain, new manager.

The manager seems fairly nice at least he doesn't think and spend his time about money and women, thats for sure. The new manager (forgot name) seems all he cares about is football which is great.

Yeh, another four years seems so long but its like next year. In the euro cup england can show us what they are like with the manger.

And, as for portugal ronaldo winked...strange,uh? Well i'm hoping they DONT win and brazil are out :o

Anyway lets just wait another 4 years..(which i think most of us will off this forum)

Tbh how quick did the time go between Euro 2004 and World Cup 2006, it shot by for me and I'm sure 2008 will come by quicker then you would expect.
I don't believe Ronaldo one bit, and I hope he stays at United just so he gets a bad reception at every ground he goes too :)

I reckon either Terry, Gerrard or Owen.
I just have a feeling that McLaren is going to pick Rooney to be captain though, seeing as he is the big name of England.

I think Rooney is to young to captain a team, Gerrard is a excellent captain for Liverpool, so he should get the arm band and I'm not just saying that because I support Liverpool. Wasnt Gerrard Englands top scorer with 2 goals? Lol.

Probably Terry.

I was extremely sad to see Beckham step down as captain. He's been a model ambassador for English football, and it just feels like the end of an era. I felt so sorry for him when he limped off in the Portugal match, because I think he knew it was probably going to be the last World Cup match of his career. I really do hope he manages to keep his place on the team.
