We I have noticed how some people have said how they cant have this in there hair and piercing's.. I mean we have got a life outside of school and we want to look how we want to when we go outside of school.. My friend got an eyebrow piercing he had to take it out when we were at school and it ending up closing up up.. I think it is stupid and we are all individuals And all want to look differnt.. your views?

Schools want to look good, and have a nice reputation, people full of pearsings dont fit that image "/ Its a formal form of education, its not about individuals its about the whole, that's they way there structured, they teach many people at once. As far as they see it you have as much time as you want to exspress indvidualty, in your own time (be it that in reality most the you wouldn't be expressing indervidaly only thinking you were by acting like a sheep)

It is pretty stupid really, but they do want us to look, well, respectable.
But as soon as you leave school, then they cant decide, not even in college.
So im just going to wait until I leave, then I will do what I want with my hair, my clothes etc.

Some of the rules they imply about fashion, and hair are for safety reasons. Like, if you have long hair, you may be asked to tie it back (although you don't want to).

When it comes to make-up, ear rings, piercings, and what not the schools just wish for their pupils to look presentable, and representable.

It's hard to accept, but it's school, not a fashion show.

Ugh when i was in school i was forever getting into trouble over this issue.
I had a lip ring and kept having to take it out but id just put it back in again and they would try to confiscate it ;l
I died my hair red, I got told to recolour it, I tried protesting and saying 'If i was ginger would i have to colour it?' That didn't help.
Trainers i can understand, but not your hair colour and body jewelery:s

I dont wear any rings/piercings/ emo/gothic clothes it doesn't make you any cooler probably makes you look worst.
I think it makes your students look really bad and I personally wouldn't want to go to a school like that if people had that kind of stuff.

You've got a good point, but our Headteacher told us it would just cause bullying.

I think the school should decide on how we look. I think it's part of disciplining.

I don't really like individualitsm or however you spell it.

Piercings is simple, it's health and saftey, their only covering themselvs.
if someone gets it rippied out playing football or something then it's the school who will get done.
Hair? maybe they just want you too look good, preparing you for the world of work.

And catcheat i'm sorry, how can you not like individualism?
Do you like to follow trends and look the same as everyone else?

i think we should get a say in what our uniform looks like and is but we should wear uniform and not normal clothes

A lot of it aswell, is so your not sitting in class playing with the 1001 different chains and what not hanging off your jeans, or sitting staring in awe at the person in front of you's pink moheeken.

Aswell as this, it's simply to try and help build on the school's reputation as already stated, and to give visitors a good impression of the place their going into.

Anyways my school looks bad.. it has mould cracks .. radiators are falling of the walls... Its so annoying at our school, we are not even allowed earings or streak in our hair. It makes me annoyed cos i want copper ones, you won't even notice them, BUT STILL, the school doesn't let you.

I brought this up at my school, They didn't do much about it though.
I mean I don't see why we can't have unnatural colours in our hair and piercings, Is a bar of metal in your face or some bright colours in your hair really going to make you any worse at maths?

No..

I guess my school isn't that bad, Compared to some others, they let you have electric blue etc in your hair, And I used to be able to wear a little square of plaster over my nose to cover it, But they stopped that:rolleyes:

I still think my school is unfair though, When I said above about us allowed to have electric blue hair etc. (basically colours that don't jump out and hit you in the face) and I was allowed to wear a little piece of plaster over my nose stud, The teachers do tend not to like you because of it, Which I think is unfair.
Take it as an example that the whole class was talking, And they would say to the person with colours in their hair etc. "Name" be quiet.

Which I think is unfair.

Wow, our school lets people have their hair and piercings how they want. There are pnik haired people, red haired, people with afros, and alot of emos, who stand around judging everybody :p

Uniforms are a good thing. My school wasn't too strict on personal touches (we had to have hair tied back if it was past shoulder-length, and were only meant to have 1 piercing in our ears if we had to have any, but that one no-one really took notice of) but the uniform itself we were meant to have on properly at all times. I quite liked our uniform because I like looking smart, but even if I didn't I can see the merits of a uniform.

It brings the school together. If you're all in your own clothes you go off into groups with people of similar taste, with a uniform you can still see that someone's a goth/emo/chav but it doesn't seem to matter so much. Unless you were really shut out from other types of people then you could talk to just about anyone in my school.

I do see why schools say it, were not allowed to dye our hair AT ALL (a guy had a dullish blonde hair and dyed it bright blonde and got told off -.-), were not allowed badges/pins/ make up/ ANYTHING ( I ingore the necklace rule ;)) were allowed on stud in each ear. What really annoys me though, is the hypocrital nature of it. Were not allowed make up, atleast 4 girl teacher's wear alot of make, and more wear jewellery (I'm not including wedding rins cause I understand that). One boy had to shave his hair off when he dyed it brown, yet, on of our teacher's dyed his hair black -.-

I know, like I said above our school sucks for hair dye, even if you just dye it a natural colour you get told off!

Why we can't be like Europe (Start Early, end early), no uniform, I don't understand. Countries in Europe don't care, but somehow the UK does. Stupid british values.

I think its partially to look respectable and so that there is less bullying because people dont have designer clothes, i can remeber when i was immature and used to complain about this, but now i relaise why they do it

I agree with school uniforms, but i think they have to get parents to sign slips each year so if anyone who has piercings or w/e and they get injured the school are not responsible

-Soph-

Thats quite a good idea.

I mean.. I can't see why you can't have piercings etc.
No offense or anything, But they are quite a teenage-young persons thing.

And lets say, you go out and get your nose pierced on monday night.
You can't straight away take it out for tuesday morning?
So I think you should be allowed to have piercings as long as their not massive big rings etc., Things like a little nose stud etc..

Someone will probably say, get it done in the summer hoildays..
Its still a pain to do this, I've had my nose pierced for over 12 weeks now, and I still find it difficult and painful to change it, because I have to mess about with it for school everyday..
