NEED GUITAR HELP

Hey i know Basket Case very well now, kinda easy. My problem however is the struming of the song. Please could someone tell me what direction to strum in the intro and later in the song. Eg: up,up , down, etc.

I really have no idea, but I do hate strumming patterns like that, I prefer down, down, down, down, etc.

I don't know the song , but I usually strum down , up , down , up ect.
