How can you say that? People who wear clothes that fit and look good! They don't even straighten their hair or cut themselves in a way which they know won't kill them, just get them attention!

Well, if that isn't the most innocent thing I've ever heard ;) And a massive cliche.

I agree, Its how they act and what they treat people like, Who cares if someone dresses differently..
Rizla

The world is all about looks. For example, if somebody looks "shabby", they aren't going to get a decent job. If somebody looks smart and clever, they're more likely to get a decent job. How you present yourself means everything. You can say "qualifications mean more", but say somebody has decent qualifications, but goes to the job interveiw in jeans and a shirt, or trackies, then somebody with the same qualifications goes in wearing a suit, they're more likely to get the job, see what I'm saying? If you're in a club, and you see somebody who looks good, and someone who doesn't, who're you going to try and pick up? All this stuff about "looks aren't everything" is true to an extent, but only to an extent.

Define "Normal"

Define "Normal"
What he said.
Everyone is normal but just have different ways of expressing their looks. If they feel comfortable in how they dress then good for them. Aslong as they are happy, they should be accepted as normal people as they should be.
Rizla
22-07-2006, 05:24 PM
Ok, normal is what is accepted by society as a whole, normal is conforming. Normal is what doesn't stray out of the accepted norms and values of society. "Normal" is somebody who can't really be labelled. Anybody who can be labelled has strayed out of normality and is a deviant (Chavs, emos, goths, moshers etc.). Although political correctness prevents us from saying any of this, of course ;)

I would say he means Normal as someone that follows what is in magazines and what people do or where that is considered, "in"

I think the term normal is used to show that people fit in, that they are cool/fit in. People shouldn't have terms like normal, mosher etc because no one should be labelled. Not even unique, because people could want to be outcasts. I think people should be people, without the stupid cliques.

Yep. It's supposedly normal because it's fashioned by celebrities and in magazines.

People often label themselves, or allow themselves to be labelled by copying a fashion.. it's not a bad thing, and it shouldn't affect people in a bad way. Labels are good because they give us something to belong to, whatever you call yourself.
Mary darling, it's not just America, us British and European chaps go for fashion rather a bit too, and I expect there are fashions in the East.

Looks dont matter in my opinion, unless you just wanna sex someone because they look fit, personality matters, not how fit you are, or how cute, or whatever..
Normal... i dont think anyones normal ^_^
Everyones weird in someway.
WHICH IS GOOD, CAUSE WE GOTTA BE INDEPENDANT.
All these labels are stupid because its just.. stupid.
If your an emo, get over urself, if your a chav, LAUGUAGE PLS, if your a goth..well dont know goths alot, but either way, just be urself, not to fit in with the crowd.. :/

Well really, everyone fits in with a crowd. Emos are the worst since they try to be "different, why shud i be labelled like everyone else? i'm just me", and it's the same with them all. Chavs, moshers, stoners are probably the coolest people to talk to, IMO.

People are normal as long as there deviancy is private.
Edit: That being said, something may seem deviant to one person, but not to another. Although in society's eyes, breaking a law is a deviant act, to the law breaker it may seem normal, and holding down a job is deviant. Although you may think of deviant behaviour as something weird, such as a person walking down the street in a clown outfit for no reason, it just applies to anything which goes against socieies norms, which is different in each society and sub-culture, so I suppose you're kind of right when you say nobody is normal, since people are normal to the sub-culture they belong to, but maybe not to another.

I get what your saying , but I'm saying that if no ones normal than that is normal making people normal.
Rizla
29-07-2006, 02:53 PM
No, society as a whole still has it's own definition of normal, however there are sub-cultures within society which would class emos and weird, but emos may class other people as weird. As people get older the labels tend to fall off, and you have to get to know someone before deciding what type of person they are, as a teenager labels are much easier to attach ;)

29-07-2006, 02:58 PM
I just think labelling someone is even more pathetic than labelling yourself.
I dont really understand labels, its kinda immature, i mean, your not gonna get to know someone by saying their 'emo' or 'chav', thats just what they ARE, not who they are.
I dont wanna know what the next generations labels are.
Rizla
29-07-2006, 03:03 PM
People have always been labelled, there's nothing you can do about it. The only people I tend to judge on labels are emos, if a boy is straightening his hair, and dying it jet black or blonde, claiming to be bi to be "different" and stuff like that, I know I don't want to talk to them. Otherwise I'll talk to pretty much talk to anybody before I decide if I like them or not. Some emo girls can be ok, but emo lads just annoy me for some reason.

No, you shouldn't. As a young teenager, you shouldn't be looking for love, you should be looking for a good lay ;)
