Ellen MacArthur has crossed the finish line and cracked the fastest time to sail alone around the world ever.

After more than 70 days at sea, the 28-year-old from Cowes on the Isle of Wight has beaten the clock with plenty of time to spare.

MacArthur needed to finish the race against time by 7.04am on Wednesday morning.


But Britain's most popular yachtswoman crossed the line in less than one day eight hours and 40 minutes ahead of the deadline.
