What do y'all think of the whole 'britpop' era of music?

We had to study it in music at school, and I've grown to like it. I'm normally into classic rock/thrash metal and I rarely go into other genres like indie or grime, and although my hate for Oasis stands (I refuse to listen to their music on the basis that the lead singer's a c**t), I'm now really getting into Blur and the Manic Street Preachers. It reminds me of my 'yoof', and stuff like Blur just sounds like some guys having a great time, and that's what I love about them.

Basically, for me, Britpop is chillout music. Ha. What are your opinions on the Britpop era (I'm especially intrigued to find out why this era spawned so many one-hit wonders like Menswe@r and The Bluetones).

Noel Gallagher is a complete idiot, and Oasis look like real poof's nowadays, but they're still godamn amazing on the albums Definately Maybe, Be Here Now & Morning Glory.

The only Oasis song I like is Hello.

But Britpop is pretty good. Blur is great because they sound like a band just messing around in their garage. They have a cool local-band feel for some reason.

The Stone Roses were more of a Britpop influence rather than a band that were actually britpop; other Britpop influences being The Smiths and The Happy Mondays.

Smiths are one of my favourite 'older' bands, some of their songs are phenomenal. I have their greatest hits.
