.Being Keylogged.

Being Keylogged is threatening to you, others and your Computer, and can be so annoying. Yet some people don't even know that they have one or even what one is.

What Is A Keylog?
What Is A Keylog Capable Of?
What Can I Stop It?
How Can I Prevent One From Entering My Computer?

These questions are what I've been trying to find out, with a little help from my Friends.
And i wish to pass this 'Important Information' back to you.

What is a Keylog & It's Capability

A Keylog/Keylogger is a Tiny Email that is sent through into your Computer.
(It depends on what Computer you open that Email on)
You are able to open it without a care in the world, BUT it is able to record all the 'Keystrokes' that you type onto your computer and is automatically sent to the person who sent you the Keylog. It might not seem that bad, but what I told you that :

Your 'Passwords', 'Accounts', 'Credit/Debit Card Details' were known by the person who sent you the Keylog. :o
And also that these can be turned against you. :o

What Can I Do To Stop It

In order to stop a Keylog in it's Tracks (Quarantine It), you need to be sure that you have all your Virus Scanners up to date.
It's also recommended that you have more then one Virus Scanner.
I suggest going on www.webroot.com and downloading 'Spy Seeker'. (Tried it for myself ;))
It is best to also Scan your Computer after everytime you go on the Internet (If your sure you have one) and once a week when it's been removed.

How Can I Prevent One From Entering My Computer?

In order to prevent a Keylogger from entering your Computer you should make sure that your Virus Scanner(s) are always scanning your emails before opening them, and if there are any Emails that your are un-sure of, then you should delete them immediately.
It is HIGHLY Recommended that you get yourself a 'Firewall'.

What Is A Firewall?

Firewalls prevent any Advertising Pop-Ups and Possible Hijackers from entering your Computer.
(This is under your Command)
In my opinion, I would recommend ZoneAlarm.
To check it out go on www.zonelabs.com

This was written to help people out there who may think that they have been Keylogged and also to give advice to people who haven't got a High Security on their Computer. If you need further help visit www.hobtech.net :)

Be Safe.

And also if you have any other 'Recommendations' that you would like to give people, then please don't be afraid to post them in your Comments! :)

Good advice! I suggest that if you dont have a virus scanner at the moment to get one now.. I have heard that AVG.7.0 is a good one.

I suggest going here (http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx) and getting this keylogger remover form microsfot. It is really good.

How come you mention spy ware, and dont mention the 2 biggist and most well reconised syware removal tools of them all?
(keylogger is a spyware type)

Lavasoft Adaware, very effect and has free version
Spybot search and destroy, looka cheep but is one of the best at what it does, compleatly free.

ps, avg and zone alarm are good combintion

Also bull gaurd is bull. you may as well just install spyware on to your pc.

fire walls stop unwated connectiosn to the internet, they have no effect on pop up spawners, they unlikly to stop browser hyjacks as well.
mainly becuse ethats not there job, they stop exstranl attacts most teh things you listed are intenal attacks form stuff thats alredy gotoon on to your pc.

I'd have to dis-agree with you on one thing Mentor.

ZoneAlarm firewall prevents pop-ups and advertisements and harmful websites that are under your control.

It enables you to allow or deny that website from being seen or entering your computer.
That's why i recommended it.

zone alarm does have some exstra fetures, but zone alarm has many fetures related to a privacy sute, a firewall as in just a fire wall does not.
MOst of zone alarms priviy tools thogh are pretty basic and ill effective, reliying on them i think would be a bad idea.

Athogh zone alreams pop up blocking utilitys, only effect online and are still no effective agsit ones genrted intenaly, say by a pop up spawner.

also most outgoing spyware is far to safiscated to directly ocnnect to the net, its more likly that they will ither hide in anotehr program, or ad themevs as a browser help object avdoiding all scanning alltoger, not being able to be told appart form say IE.

a good spyware scanner, adaware / spybot are always a essental, webroot may be nice but its pretty slow at scanning and has no quick san option, plus unlike the other to it costs.

That's something i agree with ya.

Spy Bot, Ad-Aware, Webroot Spy Seeker.

I have them all and scan my computer every 2-3 days.
And if I think I've got a 'Bug'. Then i do it after everytime after i go on the Internet.

Norton Anti-Virus i don't find all that great, but i still have it.

ZoneAlarm is a pretty decent and has easy options. (I have that too)

You could say im abit over-reacting on safety with my computer. But i guess you can't over-react if you want your computer always clean. :)

If you have been infected with SpyWare or a keylogger as it is known on habbo then you should download it, or have it just in case. To download click here (http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx)

This is what is promised:

Microsoft will provide customers with licensed copies of Windows with its new anti-spyware software for free. The pledge comes after the company had been testing its AntiSpyware application.
"Just as spyware is something that we have to nip down today, we have decided that all licensed Windows users should have that protection at no charge," Microsoft chairman Bill Gates said.
Typically, spyware generates pop-up ads or keeps track of people's Web surfing. A study published last October found that more than 80 percent of consumers had been infected with spyware.
Microsoft introduced the beta of its Windows AntiSpyware application last month.

It's nice to know that people are paying great attention to my Article. After all, it is very important, and if you do have a keylogger, then it is computer threatening, as well as it cud threaten computers around you when you send emails off or connect to the internet.
I'm glad that so many people liked it and that some people have added 'Rep'.

Don't think I've ever got so much Rep before. :)
