The Premiership Players Federation has today announced that all its members have voted unanimously to introduce a £15 000 salary cap. Only Wayne Rooney abstained from the vote, claiming: "Colleen will have me knackers if I can't keep her in Botox".
The move comes in the face of growing criticism from the media and fans alike that surely no one NEEDS £100 000 a week to survive, and that the inflated wages were unsustainable and detrimental to the health of the game.
Henceforth ticket prices for Premiership games will be slashed to £5 a match with the prices of replica kits set to follow.
Player's representative Ashley Cole said: "We felt it was time to give something back to the fans. After all, no-one likes a greedhead do they?"
In what appears to be a related incident it has been confirmed that at least fifteen Premiership players' wives have filed for divorce in the past 48 hours, with the likelihood of more to follow.
