View Full Version : Best Guitarists Volume 2
I know this was a thread ages ago, but it seems to have got lost. The gist of it was that you post (I think) your 20 top guitarists: those who are still making music and those who have stopped. Mine have probably changed a lot since I last posted in the topic, so here we go.

8. Joe Satriani
7. Synyster Gates (A7X)
6. Kerry King (Slayer)
5. Bill Kelliher (Mastodon)
4. Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society/Ozzy Osbourne)
3. John Butler (John Butler Trio)
2. Mike McCready (Pearl Jam)

7. Tom Morello (Rage)
He's in Audioslave, so he's still making music. Maybe not the same as Rage, but still around. The new song is FUNKAY
Anyway, mine would be:
1. Tom Morello (RATM/Audioslave)
2. Jonny Greenwood (Radiohead)
3. John Frusciante (Red Hot Chili Peppers)
4. Kim Thayil (Soundgarden... not sure if doing something else) [Black Hole Sun= Favorite solo]
5. Jack White (The White Stripes)
6. Matthew Bellamy (Muse)
7. Peter Buck (R.E.M.)
8. David Grohl (Foo Fighters, first album specifically)
9. Josh Homme (Queens Of The Stone Age)
10. Nigel Pulsford (Bush)
Most of these are winged, past the top 5 are really just guitarests I like, not really love.

I think Herman Li (Dragonforce) should be up there with the greatest.

graham coxon (blur/solo) is a fantastic guitarist, one of the best in the last fifteen years imo. there are other guitarists that i respect but graham coxon is the only one that i'm a real fan of.

Ive been idolizing Jonny Greenwood lately, even though I hate idolizing people. He can do everything, he makes me want to learn tons of different instruments, its like he knows everything and is an expert in them all. And not to mention his effects are CRAZY. I want to have what he has so I can spend all my time in my room.
This is probably the craziest guitar effect I've ever seen (http://youtube.com/watch?v=xyKCwDJ7ZUc)

Greenwood is a pretty awesome guy. I realised it one day, when I'd just got The Bends album, and all of a sudden "My Iron Lung" just kicked in. That's what made it for me.

I knew there were 3 guitarests in the band, so at first I wasent really impressed with any of them because it could really just be what sounds like one great guitar, could be just 3 combined. But when I saw their videos and live stuff, I relized it was Jonny doing basicallly all the crazy stuff. The paranoid android solo and guitar is genious. But most of his great guitar stuff is in their new songs like There There and 2+2=5
Oh, and his hair is great, haha

Haha, actually their explanation for it is that there were 3 songs they were working on that they didnt know what to do with, so they just combined them together. The 3 parts are very distinctable from eachother. They got that idea from John Lennon.

The best bit is the middle section, where they go pretty crazy. I love that :]

Oh yeah, I know, haha. Best part, even though the rest is good too. I would want to hear what it would sound like if they made an entire song out of that.
He's in Audioslave, so he's still making music.
But I only really like him in Rage. Except for Cochise.
