I don't think her career was shortlived at all. She was very popular in the states in the late 90's, and had some minor success here.

She's already released two albums, and has been singing commercially since 1998. Releasing music stateside almost every year since.

She still is quite popular stateside, not so much here. I guess she just wants to replicate the popularity on both sides of the alatanic with her new material.
