well downloading in a good format can be done via firefox exstentions, but the best all round FREE converter thats free of spy/ad ware etc is SUPER.

SUPER will convert pretty much anything to anything. Video Audio graphics, etc etc.
Its an incredibly good software and it even supports the ffmpeg converter
