View Full Version : Asthma... There's No Such Thing!

A leading medical journal claims that the term 'asthma' is incorrect and misleading and should be abolished.
Around the world there are approximately 300 million people who suffer from asthma which is a disease which affects the lungs, symptons include coughing, wheezing and having difficulty to breath.
The medical journal in question states "Asthma is not a single disease, but a group of syndromes with different origins and characteristics and so it is best to scrap the name"

What do you think?
Is it a bit too complicated for your liking?
Please Post your Comments.

May I ask that people stick to the thread topic? If you don't like the thread, don't post; simple.
As for the asthma thing, why change it? It's been the term for this "group of syndromes" long enough now, so keep it the same.

I'm not trying to start an arguement, but it'll affect me and some other memebers, who actually suffer with it.

if you don't find these sort of threads interesting then don't bother posting. go and discuss what your favourite colour is or something.
and it's not all about if the topic is affecting you.. i don't have asthma and it isn't affecting me or anything, but i still have an opinion on the matter..
anyway i think that it's a bit silly changing it.
"Asthma is not a single disease, but a group of syndromes with different origins.."
people don't know of asthma as being a group of syndromes or even if it was a single disease.. if you get me? like most people don't really know and are not interested in the scientific part of it. if that makes any sense?

the last few posts, me, ross, and cassie have posted - guess what kind of posts they are?
they are posts that are to prove you wrong, to make you stop posting threads like this.

But that is off topic? And the point of this thread is to discuss the idea of them scrapping the word and meaning of Asthma. Not to discuss why he shouldn't post topics... I think you are just finding a reason to argue. This topic belongs in this forum, it is to dicuss asthma, and this forum happens to be the Discuss Anything forum... See the connection?

I say, stop being argumentative, stay on topic or just simply ignore it. Loads of people use this forum, if you don't like it, go somewhere else

EDIT: Yes, my post was off topic, but people need to learn connections in this forum. Discussing something goes in the Discuss Anything forum "/ Jeez, some people are stupid.

Even if 'Asthma doesn't exist' people will still need to use inhalers to help them breathing, it will jsut be named different things, so I don't see the point in this thread.

Does it really matter if the name changes? The disease/illness stays the same it would just cause confusion if the name were to be changed.
