No online translator works properly, it only translates words, not the correct grammar.

Why not, try buying a book where you can learn italian from it? Might be more accurate then a website translator & you can learn it in your own time & its always there.

With regards to translation sites, Babelfish (http://babelfish.altavista.com/) is widely regarded as the best for its variety and tools.
However, no site can come anywhere near full understanding of the language. Try one of those 'Teach yourself in 30 days' books to learn the basics...

Indeed. The syntax structure goes all out of proportion, as the sentance structure isn't the same.

its true, no site can fully translate the grammar and other specifics of a language, your teacher will know when you translated or not, when I was In grade 7 I translated an entire homework page to french and the teacher knew It was translated..

Agreed thats very true and google has its own translator on the site never tryed it i have just seen it there so that could help

I use babelfish at school + Home :)
