If you look at the chart most other countries believe in evolution.

They can also be religious and accept evolution.

Most americans are creationist christians... so It's no suprise! I'm a libral christian therefore I accept both the 7 day story and the big bang... but I'm not a fan of evolution... if evolution is right why have we stopped evolving ? EXACTLY ;) good topic to start btw.

Humans didn't evolve from monkeys. Both humans and monkeys evolved from a common ancestor

We are still evolving, it takes a looooong time. Also there are still monkeys, because we evolved from primapes, and monkeys also evolved from them, i think :s. Also evolution is affected by our surrounding environment, as the Earth gets warmer (due to global warming), we will also slowly evolve to adapt to it, but the problem is when the environment changes faster than we can evolve :o.

Evolution is proven anyway, its a fact. The thery of eveolution is how eveolution works, nothing to do with its existance

no gravity is fact, the theary is how gravity works, we dont know exsactly what causes gravity, how it works, why it happens etc. Thats all theriotical. But it is a fact that gravity is a real effect that does happen, The fact wherre no floating a way is some nice empircal evidance

Well it's a possibility. I'm agnostic, so I won't flat out refuse the existance of a god or even a pantheon of gods, but I also won't refuse evidence. Evolution is something that happens for some reason, why that is I'm not sure (it's meant to be to do with keeping the species alive, so I guess the reason why we don't see much evolution taking place can be credited to the fact that nature has an ok balance at the moment). There's clearly more to it than that though, such as why we're able to evolve and how we know what to adapt to automatically.

Because evolution happens when a change is necessary, there are no more changes at the moment that need to happen. Not to mention it takes thousands of years. However, we might loose our pinky toe in the years to come.

backontopic - i'm a catholic (oh noes!), but I don't believe that God made the world in 7 days. that would just defy everything. Genesis is just a nice story, but not true (like the Da Vinci Code :o), but i believe that there must have been a spark to start evolution.

And obviously the Da Vinci Code isnt true, but it doesnt call for people to picket and boycott it. (which ironically helped the film and book do so well) Its a theory that the author himself doesnt even believe.

Genesis was apparently most likely to have been written by Moses, same as a few other Old Testament books. I think he's quite a good author really.

I go by the basis that a lot of religion is just to fill in what man cannot explain, so in the ancient times evolution could not be explained so they used the creation story. Now it is proven I believe it...

It's kinda sad how children may not get taught the evolution story and it must mean theres a lot of poor grades in biology...
