I Hate Stereotypes Peaople pin them on me everyday, i just have to walk around in town to be called an emo because i wear black and have emo friends, i decided to post a thread about it, I got together a few Stereotypes and they are below, i want you to take the ones most relevent to you, post them with a comment about how they make you feel, and whether they are true or not, if you have any other stereotypes please post them here aswell, i have put the stereotypes most relevant to me in my signature.

Thank you For being serious!! That is one of the most common stereotypes and is very pointless because there are a lot of very clever, bright and amazing blonde people, im sure you arent a "blonde" in the way the stereotypes depict.

Because models in general are either blonde or dye their hair blonde, and everyone sees models as being dumb.

Here's my view on stereotypes: If someone is lame enought to stereotype you on your ethnic background or what music you listen to... why do you care what they think?

Good point, we shouldnt care because people who stereotype are often moronic and have no reason to think that just because you listen to a certain type of music or beleive in a certain religion that you must be a certain thing, but this still affects a lot of people and some people arent strong willed enough to stop it from effecting them

thats really old though, not many people who see blondes think they are dumb anymore..it's more stereotyping on what people wear nowadays.
& you cant get to know everyone you see, so it'd obvious people are going to stereotype on what people look like, from maybe just seeing them at the bus stop. i dont particulary think its right but we've all done it at least once.

i was just using that as an example but just as much as people stereotype blondes, your right they stereotype people who wear burberry are chavs.

And it happens everywhere alex which is why we should try not to stereotype people. I find that i am mostly stereotyped at school but it also happens in the streets around where i live, people call me a goth just because i wear black, but why should they think this and even if they do they shouldnt have to shout it at me in the street!

Anyways I like stereotypes and think that they are fun to think about. Most of them are pritty true.

I dont think they are 100% true. But if you reverse all of those stereotypes around and look for people doing the second part, the type of person who would do that is usually going to be the person in the first part.

If anyone undersands that.

Anyways life is about making stereotypes and then judging people and hopefully changing your judgements if you get to know someone better.

Ever notice how it's only chavs that don't seem to care about labelling? They embrace what they are and are proud of it, everyone else seems to spend most of their time trying to be "individual". Why bother? Humans are naturally social/tribal creatures, we naturally want to fit in, and aesthetics have always played a big part.
Too often do I see goths/emos/alternative kids/scenesters complaining about getting stereotyped, seriously, get over it. If you don't want people to judge you, don't let them see you. What really gets me is that these people say all this about hating labelling and such, but are quick to point out a chav whenever they see one.
You shouldn't try to be individual. By all means be yourself, but being yourself doesn't mean you have to think of how you can be as unlike anyone else as possible.

No it made perfect sense ^_^ And I agree completely. I worked out a while ago that no-one's ever going to be individual, and stopped even thinking about trying it. If I'm honest, I do want to fit in so my clothing choice will always somewhat reflect on how I think other people will react - and I'm not the sort of person who wants to have a big reaction for standing out.

Although chantelle is a stupid ditz thats only one person out of howevermany blondes there are, so in a way stereotypes are true but often only for a small percentage, and i do think that people who dress and act emo should actually admit to it and not say they are trying to be different, im emo i know i am im not different most of my friends are emo.

but so far most people in this thread have only talked about emos and chavs and blondes, i was more interested in the racial stereotypes because these are the ones that mostly effect people in a bad way.
