Well i thought that i had enough of people asking for help with cutenews so i decided to make tutorial for you all to have a look at before you ask for help without even trying.

What you will need:

Hosting (This doesn't work if you don't have hosting which doesn't support php)
Cute News Click here to get it (http://cutephp.com/cutenews/)
An FTP program Click here to get one (http://www.coreftp.com/download.html)

ok, now that we have the things we need, we can upload to our server. Please not that that will NOT work if you are using most free hosts e.g. Free Webs however payed hosting (i recomend http://www.ax-hosting.com) will support php which enables you to do this. OK, here we go

1. Unzip cutenews. If you are using windows XP this will happen automatically, when the folder opens makesure you copy the folder inside the zip file to the desktop or the folder where you store your website.

2. Open the FTP program (Core FTP) and it should look like this:
http://www.lp-revolution.com/images/1.bmp

3. Fill in all the information that came with your welcome e-mail when you bought your hosting.

4. Your FTP interface should now look somthing like this:
http://www.lp-revolution.com/images/2.bmp

5. What you now have to do is drag the cute news folder (you will have to find it first) from the left to the right.

6. When that has finished you may close the FTP program

NOTE: MAKE SURE YOU UPLOAD TO PUBLIC_HTML!!!

7. Go to your hosting account and Log in, then go to the folder called cutenews

8. Now what we must do is CHMOD the files, which basically gives us permission to use cutenews and change it properties. To do this click the file and then choose "change permissions" we will do this to all the files in the"data" folder. See below:
http://www.lp-revolution.com/images/3.bmp

9. ALL the files under the data section MUST be changed so as the numbers say 777

10. Now you must go to http://www.yoursite.com/cutenews/config.php and fill in all the details.

11.

To add news to cutenews just go to:
http://www.yoursite.com/cutenews/index.php

To See the News go to:
http://www.yoursite.com/cutenews/show_news.php

If you would just like to have the news in an iFrame just use this code:

<iframe src="/cutenews/show_news.php"
width="580" height="518" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0"
hspace="0" vspace="0" frameborder="0" scrolling=yes name="iframe">

however if you want it put on you page add this code where you would like the news to go and save the whole page as "whatever.php":

<?PHP
include("path/to/show_news.php");
?>

You may now continue to add news and change the look of the news boxes.

Now this is my first tutorial so not too much bad rep please *closes eyes*

Its pretty good athogh alot of its in the read me, along with more info on how to chaneg the dispaplyed and incided news. Athogh for the considrable amount of people that for some reason never read the readme this shoudl be useful.

Athogh as an altentive way to upload, if you host supports it, you can simply upload teh zip file, and unzip it via your control panle, meaning its both quicker and puts less stran on the host, athogh u would have to delate the zip afterwards. :D

edit smartftps is probly easyer, simple windows like drag and drop upload functinalty :D

Mentor, if people knew they could do that they wouldn't need this tutorial :p however i realise that alot of this is in the read me but many people refuse to read it for one reason or another. I only made this so that people who come here for cute news help can look at that first :D

-JT-
26-03-2005, 12:56 PM
<?PHP
include("path/to/show_news.php");
?>

Put that on your page and save the the page as "news.php" or whatever aslong as it ends with .php and then upload it to your server. It should then work.

i dont think so, i have done some enquiering into this and the webmaster of that site says he got the tutorial from his forum, it was posted by a user who has copied from here.

Also, people from way back will remember that this tutorial had images, which i took screenshots of to help people out, mentor and ross can vouch for that.

Does anyone know how you do it on Brinkster hosting accounts?
I had one before and it worked fine (i didnt have to edit any files) then it stopped working a few months ago.
I cant see anywhere that says "change file permissions"
EDIT:Nevermind, i dont need it now

Ok, i know i said i knew how to use it, it worked fine on my old site but now on my new one, i saved the page i wanted the news to appear on as news.php and i inserted the code:
<?PHP
include("cutenews/index.php/show_news.php");
?>
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Is that code right or wrong, if wrong please correct it. and where should i place the code in index.php or index2.php or news.php

Best Regards. Dan
