How to beat the bullies
Hey there guys and gals!

Last night I was confronted by one of my close friends who came to me with a huge problem..

So, here's the situation: You're preparing to go back to school and, to be honest, there are many factors why you don't want to! However, the most outstanding reason is that you suffer from bullying. Bullying is quite possibly the biggest crime going when kids go back to school, and it is one of the hardest things to eliminate - not just for schools, but for society too!

As a result, I have compiled a list of tips for you to consider, should you be the bully or the bullied:

For the Bullies:

Treat others as you would like to be treated. Try placing yourself in their shoes and ask yourself how you'd feel if you were the victim.
Remember that even the very smallest forms of bullying can cause hours of distress to young people. You may see it as a joke, but your victim may suffer greatly.
Bullying is one of the biggest causes of suicide in our society. Words do hurt, they fester away and can destroy a young person's life.
People, no matter how different, have the right to express feelings or concerns without having to worry that the class bully will pick on them as a result of their opinions. For the Bullied:

You have the power to stop the bullying.
Talk to your parents, siblings, or teachers - they can be very understanding and help the situation stop.
Remember that being bullied is not a reflection of your character or worth, it's a reflection of your bully's.
DO NOT HIDE YOUR PAIN - EXPRESS IT - EVEN IF IT IS TO A CHILDREN'S HOTLINE!
Remember, there are thousands of people out there waiting for your confidential phone call, so don't delay - act today, and the bullies can be dealt with. Without bullying, the world WILL be a better place, and if we act together as one, bullying CAN be removed from schools - all you need to do is act (even if the bullying is not directed to you, but to a friend!)

As the Department for Education and Skills state: Don't Suffer In Silence (http://www.dfes.gov.uk/bullying/)

If you are being bullied and want to talk to someone in confidence, ChildLine (http://www.childline.org.uk/) have a freephone helpline at 0800 1111
