Are we prepared?

Imagine a meteor the size of the the american state of Texas hurtleing towards Earth. We wouldn't know until a couple of years before it hit but one could be heading our way right now. I didn't think about any of this until I saw "Armageddon" and "Deep impact". I'm normally don't really think about death and all that but do YOU think the Human race is prepared for a meteor ? :o

I watched a Program on this once, They were talking about shooting Nuclear Missles into the Metoer, The only problem is you have to get the right Meteor, There are HARD Metoers and ones that are like Sponge material, With the HARD one we would have to hit it in the right places to avoid it Shattering, With the sponge one we'd need very powerful Missles to bounce it away.

But the atmopshere can significantly burn away a meteor but somthing the size of texas wouldn't do anything really, it'd proabablystop the first wave of small meteorites usually found around the asteroid

To mizzmaz it is actually very likely.. a few years ago an asteroid was heading towards earth but it changed it's direction so we're safe-for now

luckly for us we live in reality and thanks to deep space tracking we know that there arnt any going to hit us for a good few billion years.. which as you may notice is slightly more than a year, and gives us plenty of notice.....
