View Full Version : [Bobba] Is it me or is FOMO pathetic?

I know this has been said sooo many times before, but FOMO is the most pathetic thing Habbo have done thus far. I mean, for years Habbo have been asking us religiously to report people and now they have made a sudden turn!

If you are worried about something - maybe you've just seen someone break the Habbo Way - you can ‘Call For Help’, by clicking on the blue question mark in the bottom right corner of your screen when you're logged into Habbo.

A Moderator will then either send you a message or come and see you.

OK, swearing etc. is a violation of the Habbo Way, this is how Habbo should be, as it is according to Sulake a moderated community. But then they go on to say:

The 'Call for Help' is Habbo Hotel's '999' service - please only use it in emergencies.

Does that not totally contradict what they just said? First it's "if you're worried about something or you see someone break the habbo way" and then it's only use in emergencies. I'm going to bet that they added that second bit when they started FOMO.

The very idea of the "FOMO social syndrome" is of Sulake's fabrication to make people think that they shouldn't report bad behavious online. I mean, if someone insults you in their so-called moderated hotel, don't have you have the right to try to inforce the Habbo Way and get something done?

Anyone can see that FOMO is an excuse to save Sulake money and up their profits. If you are going to be banned for reporting, and people follow their campaign, then there will be less CFH's and therefore less need for moderators. Therefore, they can fire any excess ones and keep a small team, so they have to pay less in wages. Overall, it just means more profit for them. I'm not going to take it out on their moderators - they are given policies and they have to follow them to the word.

I wonder how long Habbo have been planning FOMO? The introduction of the IGNORE tool began their idea, and then "improving" the call for help system let them make their silly idea work.

But the latest and greatest studies show that using the IGNORE tool is much more effective than a ban because the Habbo stays in the hotel, yet no one can hear them or see what they're saying.

I mean, what the hell. Firstly, who made this study - oh, I know, Sulake. They probably only surveyed one person, that being Becs. Secondly, why bother? If someone is going to sit around spouting rubbish they might as well get rid of them if only to save server processing power!

I also think the people that endorsed this campaign are completely stupid. I wonder how much they were payed for doing it. Those people have always been an advocate of online safety. It's really sad that they made up two Habbo's and quotes from them - IgnoreFREAK and SOFOMO.

In my opinion, the campaign should be scrapped. I know even the Habbo Way was a bit zealous, but this is just another thing entirely. It's really sad that they've decided to rubbish everything they've ever told us in favour of a money saving initiative!

In my opinion, it shouldn't be taken too seriously. It's just a fun way to ensure people know that the ignore button is there, it works, and that they should use it some some cases. ie. if someone is flooding the room, or if someone is bothering you (you can just ignore their text, simple solution).

I think a lot of people have blown the idea out of proportion, and forget it's just a bit of fun with an aim to educate regular players (and subsequently cut down on a lot of unecessary CFH, which makes the MODs more efficient).

The aim of it could have been achieved in many other ways, but this is the way they chose to do it. It won't be around forever, so just wait it out.

To be Honest I see it like this You ignore them you can't hear them which means your happy
The other person hasn't got a ban so he/shes happy
the other person won't moan and cry to their parents about the ban so their parents are happy
The parents won't ring up the habbo offices and moan at them so habbo staff are happy

so I guess FOMO kinda works...

Incidentally, if you receive a reply to your call reminding you of the use of the Ignore button, it DOES NOT mean that the Moderator intends to take no action (they can and do take action if the attached chat log shows wrong-doing!) it’s merely a reminder that you can block out annoying chat around you.

Thats all i have to say on the matter.

Obviously from the amount of complaining i've seen about FOMO, it doesn't work:s

We AREN'T happy. Say if someones blocking, nobody has rights to a room and you send a call for help, that may not be seen as an emergency, and you obviously CAN'T ignore the fact that there's some fat habbo standing in your way.

Why should you have to leave a room that your friends are in, because of some stupid habbo's? And why should we ignore the fact that we've seen people being scammed, their too noobish to know any better until they are scammed, you report and it's like USE THE IGNORE BUTTON, possibly you could warn them.. But then they will go off to try and scam another noobish habbo.

People like that should be banned, their breaking the habbo way and it simply should not just be ignored.

It's like habbo doesn't care about anything accept the amount of money they earn.

I've said it before, a 11 year old comes on habbo yes, their parent's have read the bit that say that their child is perfectly safe the hotel is monitered and moderated 24/7, no worries at all.
And then because of FOMO they get scammed or worse.

Habbo are losing users, they should be encouraging new users, and finding ways to keep habbo interesting.

The Street's of Bobba was good, but when you asked people to vote for you, nobody heard of it, unless they were from Habboxforum, or another forum... So maybe the entertaining stuff should be displayed on the home page like it used to be, and not on it's own separate page, cos alot of people wouldn't notice it.

I know habbo can never keep everyone happy with what they do, but it should be the majority that counts.

And i'm sure it's the majority that are unhappy with this campaign, i've seen more against it than more for it.

Anyways i'll end this rant now because i'm going off topic.
