http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LimeWire

Read the legal issues;

" On September 25, 2006 Limewire countersued the RIAA for Antitrust Violations " < I think this is because they accused Limewire of being illegal or something like that, im not entireley sure.

If you cba it says;
The survey by IpsosMORI found 77% of people who download music had used an illegal website at least once. And 51% said they used only illegal download services.

It also revealed that illegal file-sharing networks such as Limewire and Kazaa were still more popular than legal download sites.

Thats part of the whole thing.

The program is perfectly legal if you don't share copyrighted material.

My guess is that they are being sued because they were using Limewire to download copyrighted music, I am sure it's legal to have Limewire...

No. Limewire itself is not illegal. Using it to steal music is.

^.^
09-10-2006, 05:05 PM
Limewire is 100% ilegal, the only reason they havn't been shut-down is because they have great loop holes.

Nope. Its legal. Its a file-sharing program, which is completely legal. But people use it to steal music, which is illegal.

I used to use Limewire to download songs illegally but since I got an iPod I have noticed that illegally downloaded music doesnt have very high bitrate which means the sound quality isnt as good as the ones that you can buy for like 79p. So I now use iTunes to legally buy music

I'm not sure but my mate's sister's boyfriend got a bill from Limewire Pro for downloading all of the so called 'free' songs. The list was apparently long and expensive. (I don't believe this though) I used to use Limewire but now I use mp3rocket just incase which is exactly the same as Limewire.

Very unlikely, as being a filesharer all content stems from members, so they can't bill you for it. If they did, where would the money go? :P

Yeah, my dad's really picky now, coz he heard LimeWire is being looked into my copyright people. So now I use Morpheus in secret :p

Yeah, exactly. If he did receive a bill, Limewire would probably get prosecuted for false advertising on their homepage where it states 'free downloads'.

You can download anything that can be on a computer. If it's in the Limewire shared folder, it will be shared to everyone.

Negative, i repeat, Negative.

The software "LimeWire" is 101% legal, and the songs copyrighted from using limewire is illegal.

other than that no, the program itself is not illega.

I was always confused about this. I did think it was illegal but then it is sharing files which surely isn't illegal? :s
