Does anybody know any symptoms of diabetes, my mums quite worried because she's been feeling very strange lately, and its getting me worried. Does anybody have diabetes? If so could you tell me how you find out and what happens next? Thankyou very much.

Simon.

The common symptoms of both types of diabetes are:

increased thirst
passing water frequently, especially at night
tiredness and fatigue
loss of weight
genital itching or recurrent thrush

she should go and see a doctor.

My mate gets really faint if she doesn't have enough sugar intake, especially when exercising. If your Mum is constantly craving sugar type foods this could be a sign...

Haazzelll, constantly craving sugary foods is not really a sign of diabetes. Sure, after exercise a diabetic would be more inclined to need sugar, but diabetes is characterised by high blood sugar.

Diabetes is a defection in the body's ability to produce insulin. Insulin turns glucose into glycogen for storage. As the glucose in the body can't be stored properly when you have diabetes, the glucose remains in the blood and the levels rise. This causes the kidneys to produce more urine, and cause dehydration; hence frequent urination and drinking lots of water are both signs. Fatigue and weight loss are also really big indicators.

Don't worry too much though; while it can seem really devestating at first, diabetes can be quite easy to live with, and also improves your diet (albeit by force). When my friend got diabetes she cried for days on end. Two years down the line and she's coping just fine :D I hope your Mum's okay though!

Instead of asking a forum full of teenagers, how about going to the doctors?
That would be the sensible thing to do, dont you think?

Echo to what everyone else has said, it'd be more informationed at the doctors. I think i just created my own word!:P

But anyway, diabetes is easy to live with, my nan had it for years, but unfortunetly she died, so i didnt really know about it so much, she did not die of diabetes before you ask.:)

You posted in the correct place for the type of advise your seeking, but the wrong type of forum, this is a forum for also advise, but researching it on google would be more packed with information than any of us can give you, sorry!:(

I have done some research, and found a site for you and your mother;
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/001214.htm
It has symptons, which could help, and information on the condition.

Take a look, and i wish your mother the best of luck and hoping she hasnt got diabetes, because although its easy to live with, its also a life risking condition, and hard to handle sometimes.

Take care, and i truly hope ive helped you in anyway.

Illusions.:)

I think Arouse hit the nail on the head. I knew about the enlarged thirst and everything else looks familiar. Is there anything on the NHS (or local doctors/hospitals) website that says anything about it? I shall look it up now for you ;)

Apparently, there are types of diabetes too...
