Is there anyway you can see if the file is copyrighted or not?

If it's music then it's almost certainly copyrighted, unless you know for sure that they're an unsigned band. Most text (.doc or .txt) files and such will not be copyrighted, some programs might be.. but no, there is no way that LimeWire can tell you if it's copyrighted, as if they had the technology to filter that then they'd be forced to disallow copyrighted material from going through their servers in the first place.
