View Full Version : Ads by Google on Habbox.

There has been a banner on Habbox.com for a while now containing ads by Google. However, I have noticed some funny content on this space such as an advert for "Free Furni" and also furni for sale on ebay -- both of which are against The Habbo Way.
I am very concerned about this because if Sulake saw this, couldn't they have Habbox shut down or w/e? It does say on the Habbo Hotel website that fansites should not promote possible scams such as free furni!! :p
If I am completely wrong... sorry, but I'm just giving the staff a heads-up and also wondering if anyone has any comments. :)

Habbox don't control the adverts.
Therefore nothing can be done. eBay has an advert on nearly every search on Google. nothing can be stopped about it. it just picks up keywords.
Sulake can't do nothing either, specially when they've had some rule-breaking ad campaigns in the past.

Thats not rule breaking, theres companys around that help you find MS Word/Excell passwords etc.
It doesn't mean Habbo :)
& Also there is some about Keyloggers - nothing wrong with that, Keyloggers are used in alot of buisnesses to see what there staff do. Its only illegal when its used to obtain passwords and phishing details from people who shouldn't have them.

Your right, I noticed one the other day which said 'Habbo Hotel Cheats' and I thought, 'Ouch, that could ruin Habbox's Official hopes :'(' +rep for that comment.
Off-topic: Dominatrix, if you hate Habbox, why do you pay to be a VIP, thus keeping it running by giving donations. Or were you being sarcastic?

I don't think Habbox should have the Google ads because I can see many Habbos thinking that anything they see on a trusted fansite is genuine and getting scammed.
Simply not having it would probably save many, many Habbos. Either that or put a notice with it warning people that they are nothing to do with Habbox and could be scams.
Steven.
18-10-2006, 05:05 PM
There nto scams though.
Habbox does not have control over the ads as i said before. no one can get harmed unless they download a file with a keylogger in. ;)
And Also Google ads help pay Habbox's bills. :)

as google control the adverts we cant change what they display. you should just think before you click on them. if sulake should look at them they will know they are google adverts, and it shouldnt affect habbox's chances at becoming an official fansite.

Most of the ads that say they are cheats or whatever aren't really what they are, normally another ad site or w/e.
And on the ads it says "ads by gooogle", so you dont need to add "not controlled by habbox" or whatever :p.

I think also, if 8freak8 or sierk see any ads they dont think are appropriate, they block them off using the competitive ad filter.

Sierk uses his "sierk1" account to read all threads in the main of this forum. 8freak8 also glances over them, so yes they do :).

We can ban ads for certain url's so maybe we should ban ebay. But I've clicked on ads before that said hack or cheat and then they were actually innocent sites.

Habbox was removed from the official fansite list for posting unreleased furniture yet (Basically posted all the V7 rares before they came out)
They'll never be on it again...

I have now filtered ebay.com and ebay.co.uk from being advertised, as they are probably only used for things that are not allowed by Habbo.

*Removed*
Firstly, I am not being a suck up.
Secondly, Habbox do have control over the adverts, hence, Sierk filtering out the eBay adverts. ;)
Catzsy (Forum Super Moderator) - It is not allowed to quote reputation comments. Please see rule:
A15. Do not post private messages or quote private conversations or comments made with the User Reputation system - It is not allowed to show Private Messages without the senders permission either in a Post or in another Private Message. Also it is not allowed to quote anybody from a private conversation, for example in a Private Message or in a private forum, without the author's permission. This means it is also not allowed to show comments made by others using the User Reputation system, for example in your signature.

It won't become official. Habbox was and probably still is the most used habbo fansite, but it won't become official, it can't.

I'm pretty sure once a site is removed for a certain reason it can't be put back on. Unless I'm wrong... which I probably am.

I would just like to apologise for breaking a certain rule. This was when I quoted a bad rep I received and I was unaware of this being against the rules.
I will make sure this never happens again and thankyou Catzsy for teaching me this. :)
