What can I say.
Pure dedication. I left my friend's house at 6am coz I have to catch a train at 8am, but I spotted a newsagents open and remembered today is the day of the Habbo article being published.
I bought the paper from a confused shop-owner at 6.25am, and got home and quickly read it.
The article is in the Telegraph Magazine, and supplement inside the paper. The article is mentioned on the front cover.
It starts on page 56, and Habbox (and Habbox users) are mentioned on the 4th page of the article on 2 occasions.
I'm obviously very pleased to see the site I run mentioned in a magazine with a national circulation - even if it's a very small reference! There are 4 or 5 quotes from Habbox users.
Buy it and post pictures if you can!
Must dash now, train to catch!

UPDATE:
I have the magazine, read it and uploading screenshots now.
Basic story line:
UKchaserAl (Allistar Williams) and Heidster (Heidi Foster) guide Tim Moore around the Hotel. He tells of how his son is scammed; how he asked Habbox users information ect.
Only two quotes are in it that I can see. One is (suprisingly) from me (but it was edited :@) I put 'I speny 500 quid on my home phone for creds... my parents would burn down the office if they could' but this was changed to 'I speny 500 pounds on my father's work phone for creds... my dad would burn down the office if he could'

Pretty gr00vy article, to be honest. I managed to successfully read most of it, and it really does put Habbo in a good light, whilst still showing some of the more "sinister" sides of Internet life, particularly with last year's incident. We get to see Habbo from his perspective, his son's perspective, the view of other Habbos, and the view of the staff... lovely in-depth article which seems to sum Habbo up to a tee! :D

It's a good read, Habbox gets mentioned twice. He really does give an indepth talk about habbo :P

Yeah thats a really cool find, i laughed when "Allistar" replied to Tims question, "Is this a perk of the job?" He replies, "Uh, its kinda cool". That made me giggle a bit, and i guess this shows a bit more of a indepth look of how its really like for the staff, and what they think of their members, etc.
I doubt ill be buying it though.. :P Good find <333

Good to see Habbox got a good, fair mention. :]
Thought the article was a bit biased for the majority... although just about everything was right about how bad Habbo is and the money kids spend on it, he only actually touched on the good things that come out of Habbo.
Lol Al and Heidster probably thought he would have done an article preaising them, so I'd love to have seen their faces this morning! xD
I'm glad it was in this paper, and not The Sun or The Daily Record, because it was a longer, more structured report and was written extremely well.

Its good to see it finally getting realised that people who are really 'rich' have gotten that way through scamming and hacking. As it would take years and years to get that much money through the credit limits.
Even William admitted it, kind of.

Actually it was over 4 months ago.
And good report.
Pretty much like in real life; I think it depends which social group you end up being part of, as to how good of an experience you're going to get.
It's just the bad always outweighs the good, Habbo actually isn't as bad as some parts of the article may make it seem. If you mix with the bad apples in real life you're heading for trouble, same with Habbo.
I thought the article was quite fair. It showed both sides, but I feel maybe the bad side of Habbo more so?

Ive just came back from downtown with the Daily Telegraph, ive read it and its almost all the truth. Sure there is the side of Habbohotel where everyone insults eachother and act well hard, but then theres another side you dont see, unless youve been on Habbohotel more than a year. Alot of things change.. I think he's went to the wrong crowd to be honest, if he came back id show him exactly what the other side of the hotel is like.
What other side, it's crap all round, everyone is stuck up

Not stuck up, theres some nice people on the hotel. Youve just got to be on the hotel to find them, not on for like 1-2 days because youll obviously run into the idiots, like anyone would.
Im looking for Tim Moores email anyway.. I want to tell him how right he is on some of that, yet it needs improving..
Ive been on the hotel for 4 years, not 1-2 days ;)...

I never said you Marc, i meant Tim Moore :P He was probably only on the hotel 1-2 days, and Al just shown him the landmarks, and not the actual people that makes Habbo quite unique.. Not a swearing nation. I feel like emailing Al now, about if he should become a Tour operator or not..

That really is a great article , i recommend you all read it, it made me think about alot of things to do with habbo, and also made me happy that im a part of this community.
I loved tim's conclusion -
Look beneath Habbo's playgroup posturing and you'll detect the foundations of a laudable value system - the importance of community, the power of creative enthusiasm, the sense that ultimately you get out of life what you put back into it.
That really is a great article , i recommend you all read it, it made me think about alot of things to do with habbo, and also made me happy that im a part of this community.

He also made aware how Habbo gives teen a false sense of reality, its a way to escape the problems of real world and he shows how Habbo exploits this very well.

I don't think that was very fair, considering attempts to groom young people probably occurs on a lot of popular - teen orientated - chat rooms. If they want to discuss child grooming, an article about that perticular subject or teens using the net in general would be more appropriate.

I think that the screenies were taken on different Hotels and sent to him from somebody at HQ judging as there are badges there from Habbo China and UK I think.

Habbo used to tell habbo's that they should report everything that happens suspicious to be a good habbo citizen, now, Becs did the FOMO campaign and all kids who report suspicious activities are "Attention seeking" and are afraid of being banned.
This lack of moderation clearly shows Habbo is becoming an unsafe place, and I felt that it most deffinately deserved mentioning, especially as the article was about Habbo.

As I understand it, users aren't going to be punished for reporting anything that is justified. Habbo obviously would rather know if somethings happening. If a user is reporting something that is inappropriate or unjustified then all they'll get is a message back reminding them to use the CFH responsibly or to use the ignore button in similar circumstances. Of course, they don't want floods of CFH's from one user about one instance, and they don't want users to purposely go around reporting things. Which, I think is fair.
If users are afraid of calling for help then it's not entirely Habbos fault because they've never said not to all they have done is lay down the line and say when and when not to call for help, and when and when not to use the ignore button. I think that's reasonable considering these functions are put in place to help us out and to help them out.
I think people have simply misunderstood the 'FOMO' campaign, or misinterpretated what the message was. I feel the unerlying message was to think before calling for help - could the issue be solved by ignoring the person? Or, does it need the attention of a Moderating staff?

If someone was stalking you and you pressed the ignore button, they wont be able to harrase you or do anything. You wont meet up with them in real life and it will be fine. Just about every thing someone can do to hurt you on habbo can be fixed with ignoring them. If the pedo was ignored and didnt meet up with the people then it wouldnt have happened. What is habbo going to do? Say dont follow those people around?

I totally agree, I think the FOMO campaign was a waste of time, I think they should've just written an article reminding people of the ignore button.

Well, I'm pretty sure the Pick Up button means, if you click it, you're on the case, and another moderator knows not to get involved. Like picking up the call.
Pick Up & Go, I think thats like, go to the room, as well as pick the call up.

I thought the pick up call was more to do with Furniture really.. Nevermind. I was reading the book again last night and it said that they "have to lock the doors when a student conference is outside" or "whoever cant see over the desk, doesnt get in". Seems a bit harsh on midgets i guess, but to the point. Its a bit critical calling the members of Habbo hotel who practically pay their wages stalkers..

Pickup = Assigns that specific issue to that Moderator or Habbo X
Pickup and Go = Assigns that specific issue to that MOD or X and sends them to the room the user is in
Pickup and Reply = Assigns that specific issue to that MOD or X and sends the user an alert or answer they enter.
Upgrade = When X's recieve call for helps, if a call for help is an Emergency, they press this button to send it to the Moderators.

Habbo since day one have always said to ensure that if anything unconfortable happens on the Hotel it must be reported straight away in order to be a good and safe Habbo Citizen. They even did events on this basis too such as the Hobba Premiership a while back. Since Hobba's have gone, and X's have come.. the safety and overall Habbo product had started to go down hill.

That leaves Mr Offensive racist guy to go harras some other poor 14 year old who shouldn't have been able to see the horrible things he said as the Moderators should have taken action.
All I see is Habbo have reduced the number of online MOD's so that Call For Help numbers are dropped, therefore showing the Safety on Habbo is lacking most deffinately. If that was the message, as you said, they should have made it alot more clearer and not threaten bans in the Emergency Call For Help area. :P
About 2 weeks ago, I was in a room and 2 users were swearing harrasing me etc etc, I reported it as the remarks they were saying were racist, homophobic, slanderous.. literally everything you can think of. I got a message back saying "Use the ignore tool" I was very annoyed however followed the instructions of the moderator and ignored them.. however, they didn't stop and then encouraged other members in the room to hear their points of views and pass on their messages, saying all this un true rubbish about me. I therefore went to another room, and surprise surprise they had followed me. I sent another call for help, and another reply "Use the ignore tool". After my 10th call for help saying how pathetic this is and how I can't believe I am going to have to use the Helptool to get this users removed, an hour later they did actually ban the user.
Do you think this is good?

just-one, I totally agree on your last comment, habbo are useless in the sdaferyt department, theyt just say use the ignore button. they don;t know you use it, but then they go harrass another person, nd they report them and they just get told the same thing. Habbo eventually banthem, bevcause if they are only having one moderaor on at a time, 100 odd calls everyone 10 mins or whatever, but habbo should really get more MOD's online. Somone of the time, they get undercover moderators in! These mods will see the bad language ( if any ) and then have tyo loads there HS account and ban them? by that time, they could of gone and said something else to another person. All of that could have been stopped by using the ignore button. Habbo is just an interactive chat room. If you dont want to talk to someone, you dont have to. If someone else doesnt want to talk to the person, they dont have to. But if Mrs. Pedo wants to talk to Mr. Pedo then they can. In real life I agree that you can not just press the ignore button because someone can mug you and hurt you. But on habbo everything stops when you ignore them.

But !!littlebilly!! does not know about the ignore button, and hey, he is not too internet aware either. He's only a new Habbo member, and doesn't know about the Ignore button and finds this "fellow 12 yearold" very nice.
There is more of a risk with encouraging the Ignore button, when Habbo can machine and IP ban those who are obviously harvesting kids. I am sure Habbo would want to try and keep people like that off their site, and if reported will ban them, IP ban, and contact the police (hopefully). However, if x!!:HappyGirl:!!x reported it, instead of ignore, and a MOD removed them from the hotel.. !!littlebilly!! would not have been in Sky News the next Morning.

I tried followin moderators, Ignore button.. but that doesnt stop them harrasing you infront of other users who do not wish to involved themselfs with you as two guys who are ignored are saying this that bobba this swearing racist etc etc!! And for them to get other people to pass on comments, and follow you too rooms.. the ignore tool is NOT that effective.
