A Levels

Right at the moment I think I have decided what job I want to do as a career. I want to be in the FBI/CIA in a sector like 'X-Files' sector of it. At the moment I'm taking 4 A-Levels (Psychology/Philosophy+Ethics/Law/Business) and 4 was the recommended for people that got pretty good GCSE's. But the thing is the career I want to involve in would pretty much involve Physics/Biology and they are 2 more A-Levels, and I can't drop any of the others as they are pretty essential to my career apart from Business which I got an A* for GCSE in. So I was thinking what do I do? I was thinking I could teach myself Physics/Biology at A-Level just as like a sort of hobby so I would know atleast half the stuff needed in a future career/at university. Your thoughts on what I should do?

Keep doing your 4 alevels, anything can change in two years. Most people have 4-5 career ideas, so anything can happen. If you are interested in Physics and Biology then see if it is still essential after you a levels and maybe take science at University? Just because you havent done the course at a level before will not affect you at degree level, it will be harder on you as other people will be more advanced but you can get there if you study hard and put a lot of personal work in. If the advice here is not substantial then talk to you form tutor, head of year or local connexions advisor.

A levels are a british qualifcation, the FBI and CIA are american Instutions? maybe a job at torchwood?

Anyway on a more serios note, phisics / biology would be pretty useless for the large amount of jobs within the two youve listed, ones an inteligence agency, one is a Law inforcement agency, Law/phycolagy would probably be the more useful of what you listed, unless you want a specific job, say in ferenzics? (sp?)

You've seen the X-Files on tv, and think it would be cool to work for the FBI. Let's say it's 10 years from now. Would you still want to work for the FBI? It's fairly likely that you'll change your mind in the next couple of years over what you want to do.

Also, like Mentor said, why would you need physics/biology? :s

Law no idea why you don't even need it to become a lawyer or anything in law... they'd prefer you to take History or something where its more demanding with more skills...
Psychology & Philosophy & Ethics i doubt are "essential" either...

I mean they are not even thought of that highly... so unhighly that top sixth forms don't even have them as an option...

its better off just doing a mix of subjects... it shows you have more skills ...

unless for instance you want to go into medicine where you need biology & chemistry + another science/maths...

The sixth form i go to is in the top 20... it has all of them.
I looked up the supposed best sixth form collage also... it also has EVERY one of the subjects he mentioned...
o.0 so were you just makeing this up to attempt to sound smart of somthing? or is there actualy any truth to what you were saying? say a decent sixth form that doesnt offer them, since my 20 seconds of reserch was far from thourgh

Colchester Royal Grammar School.
I have the sixth form prospectous in my hand right now...
I sat in the hall on Thursday night...its 2minutes away from my house.

most successful sixth form in the whole of england to get students to oxford and cambridge.
also it is Ranked number 1 in the ranking tables (varying in different newspapers) more than anyother sixth form in the country.

so yes it is the BEST sixth form in the country, academically that is.

colchester country high school sixth form which is literally 50 secodns from the one i mentioned above does have all those subjects on offer...
and that is overall ranked 3rd in the country.. so it differs...

but dnt just because you have aways seemed knowledgeable on these forums... for the past 2 years or so i have been on here, try & talk a load of rubbish.
yes most sixth forms do have those subjects on offer, but the best academical one does now because they see no point as a university (a good one) would choose someone with subjects such as history more highly...
