View Full Version : Issues With Moderation.
Hey;
This isn't going to be some stupid rant about infractions, but I think some of the moderation is seriously crap especially in the Computers & Web Design section.
The moderators have no clue to the concept, the normal area without the sub-sections should be for the following:
Design principles and discussion
Rating and constructive critiques
HTML / XHTML and CSS techniques and errorsHTML & CSS are morealess mandetory HTML is needed in 100% of webpages yet is consitently moved to the coding section, which is a bad move as HTML is a client-side based markup language and the coding section says client-side/server-side scripting languages.
I have no issues with PHP, ASP ECMAScript going in the coding section but HTML and CSS issues and coding is awful. Take This (http://www.habboxforum.com/showthread.php?t=255482) thread for example. He is offering to make your sites work properly and be cross-browser compatible with no scripting or serverside but client-side markup language HTML or it's higher up in standards XHTML and also CSS styling so the moderator is moving it against the sub-forums description.
The fact that he gave out an infraction for this is appauling as JoeComins is using the Web Design section to it's full correctness and if we continue to have to use the coding section to host discussions about HTML and CSS then that just rules out having that main section.
Also we have posts about forums which have nothing to do with Web Design in that section not being moved, and a thread on Piracy and illegal keygens which wasn't removed which I reported, yet the move threads which have liable reasons for being there into the wrong section.
Also the Computer Talk always seems to get Computer Problems which there is a seperate forum for, but whenever I report I either get PM's saying not to or just ignored so I have gave up on that.
I think hiring people whom actively participate in the Computer Section would highly benefit it, there are certain people with clean records and whom are already Habbox Staff.
I think this needs sorting.

If you have problems with staff please pm Seacat and he'll take care of it.
If you see bad posts, please report them, it makes it easier for mods. :)
Perhaps I can tell you to look at this which I said in my original message.
but whenever I report I either get PM's saying not to or just ignored
I have no issue with moderation anyway else as I rarely post anywhere else. Plus I don't have an issue with staff personally. This is comments, therfore I would love the web design people who post there to be able to have a say, and I don't think Seacat would appreiciate a 20 way PM conversation.

How do you guys sleep at night
The new mod in web design is an idiot.
He moves stuff like scripts to coding when it has nothing to do with coding.

We Want a full investagtion into this and hopefully hes gets a warning as we get one for posting in wrong section
Personally I feel that the coding forum is pointless. No-one posts about any coding not related to web dev, therefore I'm sure there wouldn't be any problems in just having one section for "website development". Not worrying about which section a thread belongs to would save moderators' time.
Anyway, from what I've seen none of these comments are even taken into consideration. When you challenge something, they think you're unaware of how it works and explain it to you (as if EVERY practise of Habbox's is perfect, and if you're disagreeing with it then you must not understand it).
If you have problems with staff please pm Seacat and he'll take care of it.

I'm pretty sure he (and everyone else) is already aware to report bad posts and PM Seacat if there's a problem with staff. You don't have to make a post in every thread of this section.
All i'd like to say is that being a new moderator is one of the hardest times you can have on the forum, especialy moderating the computer + webdesign section, and i think people should really have patience with the new moderator.
As micky.blue.eyes said if you have problems with staff please pm Seacat and he'll take care of it.

C'mon, if you are called Bomb-Head, you can't really expect people to take you seriously can you?
On-Topic: I think infracting people for a genuine mistake is just dumb. Why doesn't each forum/section appoint their own mods, which then have to be approved by an admin or something. Then, the web-dev section won't have people that don't know about web design moderating it, and something like the Runescape section won't have Runescape noobs moderating it either, something they have complained about.

You are exceedingly repetitive. The new moderator should look at the concepts instead of moving a thread like on markup principles to a coding forum to do with programming and server-side basis.
Long were the days where people like Michael-W was moderator, he was pretty good and when A4AOwen was a moderator of the actual computer section and Joshua was super moderator.
Now nothing is done and infractions are given out like rep.

Personally I agree with you on that, should mainly only mod a category if you have an interest in that.
Well then maybe they should get a mod for the computers and web-design that actually knows some stuff about computers and web-design?
Instead of some weirdo who doesn't know the difference between a script and hosting.
It is pointless insulting the moderation, I brought this up in a thread for the reason for people to discuss their views on this moderation as a whole. I have no complains about the moderation, except that they currently moderate certain sections wrongly, like there was a big hoof-hah when :Jaimie was fired or something and they was landed with somebody from outside the Runescape forum, thats all we want.

Apparently not, because most people still post here to discuss it.

You should PM Seacat when you have problems with the way forums are moderated aswell. ;) You can pm A4AOwen aswell and Ostinato.

I agree with you for a bit on that, but forums could pick lazy mods or mods who are friends with the others and won't treat rule breakers the way they should.
So like Jamie said, mods should only mod forums they've interest in, mods can change forums if they want, so they should use that option.

So basically I HAVE to PM management and not let people have their say? I think not, I put this thread here so the majority of people can comment, therfore I think I shouldn't PM Seacat or some other admin. I want to post it here, this is comments about Habbox, I have a comment about the moderation of Habbox, I post here in the correct forum, yet i'm being moaned at by some idiotic moderator who if he says this is in the wrong forum clearly contradicts himself.
Well done there micky.blue.eyes you have just achieved a A* in stupidity and repeating your own post many times to raise post count.

Well Geek I think you are entitled to your opinions as long as it is on moderation
and not a personal attack on the mods and being rude about them doesn't really move the thread on. I think that to moderate a forum the mod does have to be interested in it and I can see your point of view from one side. I have very little knowledge of scripting so I have to ask people who do have when i need to while going through that forum.
Yours is quite a specialist section so some of the things you say do make sense. I can see the other point of view too in that it is only Admin/Managers that can move mods or recruit so it might be worthwhile pming them your concerns as well :D

Thanks for the decent answer. I mean not to attack moderators as I have no problems with them, but when they keep repeating what I already know and insulting my intelligence by saying I don't know how to report when I gave reason for it in my original post it makes me wonder exactly how moderation is chosen.
Edit:
I wasn't being rude, I was telling the truth, so I don't believe I deserved that infraction, I feel he should have an infraction as he called me stupid before by saying I didn't know how to use the report button.

What's to stop you from treating your friends better than others? That's why I said they should be approved by an admin, but we all know that won't happen. It's too much work for all of them :\

Just because I moderate a certain category, I will still be active in other forums.
I would like to say that the moderation in the web design section has improved greatly over these past few days. Catzsy and Bomb-Head have been doing a great job and even PM'ng people when they have reported posts saying thanks.
It says that they're three moderators in the web design section, but I rarely see the other two doing anything but I don't look at every post so I may be mistaken then.
Just need to get the computer section overall a bit better now =] perhaps a new forum dedicated to selling and buying.
