It is often stated that "Religion is the cause of many wars".
Religion is the cause of wars, discrimination and hatred- but why?
For as long as humans are all uniquely different, there will always be discrimination and hatred against them.
Earlier today I thought it would be interesting to Google the words "God" and "War"; to see which has the highest frequency of publication on the web.
I found that the word "War" is published several million times more than the word "God".
What do you think of this?
I was extremely surprised; I am not religious but I respect those that are and would never discriminate against them; but I suppose it is the same with homophobia, sexism and so on..
Do you think that religion/God is the main cause of war?

Well God and war, dont realy work, for if there was a god, at least under the christan concept, he would logicly stop them happening.
I belive the quote is along the lines of "Ether god can stop it, and he doesnt not want to, or he wants to, but is unable to stop it"
The former would mean hes not omniptent, the latter hes not benevolnet, which means the christan concept god has yet another contradiction with in it, this one being the more famous, problem of evil.

Religion on the other hand is another matter, Religion tends to promote many horrible things, and threwough history has been abused to give people absurd powers and do great harm. I belive a quote on this is "normaly good people do good things and bad people do bad things, but it takes religion to make a good person do a bad thing"
The problems with the concept of good and bad aside, this i belive is a valid point, since mass murder is wrong to anyone. Yet if you blindly and wholey belive its god will, then people will comit such acts, which can be seen threwout history, the christan cursades and many millions of less famous wars (christanty holds the title of causeing the most, even though its actualy one of the more reacent ones, in comparsion to certain others )

So Yea, i belive religion can often be a large cause for war, hatrid and discrimaition, it encorages them all by design in many cases "/

Religion is the cause of wars, but not all wars. However Religion leads to alot of the terrorists doing things they do, which led to the Iraq war because of 9/11 etc. It is also decisions that lead to war such as a President's decision, which is not always based on Religion. However alot of religions signify against war, especially Buddhism and Christianity. Which leads to the question what war is a just war? Religious people aren't homophobic because they want to really, it's because of the beliefs behind their faith, and because they follow the faith they follow all the beliefs. Plus the Church is pretty sexist anyway with the way it treated the Mary Magdalene situation, so it's always been pretty sexist in the church.

"Religion is a source of comfort and strength in a world torn apart... by religion" ~Jon Stewart.

Yes, religion is the source of many wars, arguably all have some sort of connection. It isnt so much as "we think your god is wrong, we're going to kill you" as much as it is applying those differences to how the world is run. Which is why there should be a complete seperation of church and state.

Humans blame their petty wars on a religion that promotes peace (except fo the old testament ^-^)
