***? What the hell could possibly be gained by doing that? I mean really, Russia, what's the deal?

Russia confirms Iran missile deal

Russia has confirmed a deal to sell surface-to-air missiles to Iran, insisting they are for defence only.

Russian Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov said a contract to deliver TOR-M1 missiles to Iran had been signed.

He said the deal "in no way upsets the balance of forces in the region," Russian news agencies reported.

Iran has reportedly agreed to buy 29 of the mobile air defence systems in a contract worth more than $700m (£400m; 600m euros).

The BBC's Steve Rosenberg in Moscow says the sale is not banned under any treaty, but it has already been criticised by the United States and Israel.

Earlier, Iran announced that it was planning to build a second nuclear power plant in the south of the country, despite coming under pressure from the international community over its nuclear ambitions.

Iran has previously said it wants to build 20 nuclear power stations in as many years.

Earlier this year the Russian government faced criticism from the West when Moscow agreed to sell missile systems to Syria.

The people we fight are nearly always the ones who we've given weapons to. Controversial perhaps, but not unexpected.

As for what's to gain - money.

Indeed it's insane... the billions of dollars and euros and pounds that exchange hands over millitary weapons must be so vast

There is nothing wrong with that, a country just building there defence system
stronger. Every country has highly damagable weopons for defence and attack esspecialy America who I believe is the main reason why Iran is geting more defence systems in place. As most of you know soon enough America will find some dodgy reason to go into Iran and when that happens Iran will use Nuclear weopons in which America will reply to using Nuclear weopons then the neighbour countries will get involved because America accidently hits one of them then world war 3. Or should I say 4?
