Ok just a quick question. What do you guys think about the bands out. You know the Beat Bullying, Livestrong and that. Are they becoming a fashion statement or do people really wear them for the charitys? People are buying them but then reselling them and it's really bad at school =/ Surprised they ain't banned them yet.

Truthfully myself I think people are turning them into a fashion statement. A friend of mine has 3 bands which she wears everyday. A yellow, red and the blue and white one. Now I don't know what they are apart from the blue and white one is for the Tsunami Appeal. The reason I'm getting is that she has these bands but she doesn't have a clue of which charitys they belong to and what's worse she doesn't care what charity it is for!!

Post your thoughts and opinions and remember please respect each other <3 :)

Livestrong is a band Lance Armstong started for cancer reaserch. As you may know he had cancer and came back to win 6 Tour De Frances. Bacicly all the other ones are just copies, but still for a good cause.

Pink- Breast Cancer
Blue- Mostly tsunami
There are a few more, but they are much smaller corps.

Yeah, it was definately a fashion statement in our school. I got the blue "Beat Bullying" band around September.
But it's so stupid, one week you see everyone with the yellow one, then it goes on to pink.
Buh at Fashion.

They are for a good cause though.

Its getting ridiculous, Nike sell them and the money doesnt even go to charity!! everyone has them at school, even the bullies wear them and i totally agree about dem being fashion statements. At my school they always get sold to other people and they dont even care about which charity they are for. I bet charity have made alot of money from them but now i think its goin a bit OTT.

Meh, reminds me of converse. Nearly everyone started to wear them, because they followed the trend of becoming "alternative" now when I go into town, no one has them. Oh dear, gone out of fashion now?! Pssh. xD

The main problem is people are buyinh them on eBay and the thing is the money isn't going to charity? Half of them are fake anywayz and snap easily. Even football clubs are bringing out bands like Rangers FC (I'm Scottish but do NOT support them), after wearing it a few times it snapped =/ I think I'll just give money to charity another way.... :$

i think the banners are pointless, theres one for a rediculs amount of things, and the major as said at the bigging are for "fasion" rather than charity

Athogh as a pro even if there not worm for the coreect purpos, the charitys who made the baned are still reseaving moeny from the sails

I suppose I have a few but I do believe strongly in the charities and only buy them when I know where it is going:
here are the bands I haveeee:

[] Yellow - Livestrong
[] Black Attatched White - Theirry Anti Racissm
[] Blue - Beat Bullying
[] Pink Cancer

So it looks like I have 5 but I really have 4 (anti rasisum is attached, clever) I dont wear it for fashion, I believe in all them charitys, I wish they would have a special one for Phyllis Tuckwell and I will buy 23893399393, my nanny died there :(

I think that is the point mentor. Lol. Who cares if people dont know what they are for/ if they think it is for fashon. It all goes to charity no matter what reason you buy it. I dont know why you people are complaining about charities but whatever.

Okay, this type of subject has been posted i don't know how many times.
It's good no matter what it is bought for, as long as you buy them either
a) Out of a shop
or
b) Of the OFFICIAL website

That way, you know the money will definetly be going to charity.

Also, i think the bands being a fashion statement is actually good!
Because
a)More people will buy them
b)Nobody will be bullyed for actually wearing them
c)If it keeps staying a fashion statement, the charities who made them wont care about what they do with the band, they are still getting the money right?

These bands, have become exceedingly pathectic.

They are more than a fashion statement, they are like an extension of someones arm..

At my school, a ninja in training, only school. They are banned. Why?
They are banned due to the bullies, bullying people for their bullying bands...
I would have certainly though the directors and chief executives at these companies would have foreseen this problem.

Obviously not.

I have a livestrong band, cause they're for a good cause. I bought mine off the official website or something, so the money actually goes to cancer research, not just to the people you bought it off from ebay, like most people do.

WE WANT THEM TO BE FASHION! People will want them. If they are popular->People will buy a lot-> If they buy a lot, a lot of money will go to charity. WHAT ARE YOU COMPLAINING ABOUT? WHO CARES WHY PEOPLE BUY THEM AS LONG AS THEY GO TO CHARITY?

I know its bad but I simply bought mine because EVERYBODY else has them :p
I've only got a Beat Bullying one and a light blue Livestrong and they are both real. Though I don't think there is anything wrong in buying fake ones or us selling them on or stuff, but it's the big companies that are trying to make money out of it that shouldn't be allowed. Quite a lot of shops are now just selling plain bands or ones that say 'fun' or 'strength' and stuff like that :s And the thing is, they are sometimes cheaper than the real charity ones so people buy the fakes instead!
Also, I heard that when the bullying ones first came out, some people were getting beaten up for wearing them!!

Hahaha, me too!

They have been in fashion for a while now, they give the apparel your someone that cares, thoughtful and is actually politicly involved somehow (and usually the case they arent). As long as you dont buy them second hand, and you really do believe in what they stand for its okay.

Ebay is terrible for the bands, it makes me sick how some people are making money out of them (they are NOT charities, and keeping the interest for themselves!).

HOWEVER, what hasnt been mentioned in the thread yet is they have spread awareness of some of the causes, which in total is a very good thing.

Do People Actually still wear them? I still wear my Livestrong one, and i will occasionally wear the Blue BBC Beat Bullying One. I know they are both real because the Blue one came from the BBC and i bought the Livestrong one from a Bike Shop near from Here.

Alot of people at school i know were buying them off of eBay, which i think is wrong, because we buy them to support the charities, yet how do you know if someone on eBay is going to pay the money to the charity?

To be honest I hardly see anybody wearing them any more where I live. I only have the black and white anti racism and the yellow livestrong.

The best ones are the Ozzy Osbourne ones for 21CL. I can't really tell you what they say on them, but rest assured it's funny.

Two semesters ago my friend was telling me about he'd buy them on ebay in bulk cheap and then sell them around the school for double of what he payed... he made over a $1,000 that way. I personally wouldn't buy or wear them... but hey, people like to stay in fashion right?

They're really annoying, and becoming very trendy. I doubt anyone actually cares about charity.

No, which kids actually care about some dudes dying in Africa? They all just go to live8 and wear the bands to see their favourite bands and to look good. The reason I stopped wearing them is because my brother told me that gays have secret codes (depends on what bands you wear on what hand) for, erm, doing, stuff, to each other.

And I don't want some gay sniffing me. And Kimmy? What the hell is the NSPCA? Do you mean the NSPCC?

meh, I've never heard of anything about a code. And when a gay guy hits on me I take it as a compliment... cause if I'm cute enough for a guy to like me then I know I'm gold. Just politely turn them down and they'll understand.

But I only wear things that have some function. The belt keeps my pants up. The shoes protect my feet. The hair-ties on my wrist keeps my hair up. A yellow band has no function to me so I'd never wear it. Plus I'm a secret donator... if I'm gonna donate some money to a cause I'd rather the rest of the world not know about it. Cause if they did, more people would want money.

In short, never do something you don't believe in just to look a certain way. If it's not from the heart then it's fake and most people can see that. If you wear a band because you honestly care and want to show that you care... all the best to you.

ah... I kind of miss that age where someone was icky if they were thought to be gay and you stayed away from them and never got to know them because gay people are icky :s ... actually, nah, no I'm not. I only hated Gay Bobby because he lost my dear Jenna (my blue lighter) in the laundry (there were too many Bobbies so he named himself Gay Bobby before anyone blasts me for calling him that... there was also Blond Bobby, Drunk Bobby, and I Got Drunk/Wore Teresa's Clothes/Hid From The Cops In That Bush That One Night Bobby). Meh, I miss my friends... gotta get out of these woods.

So do people color cordinate their bands with what they wear that day? Say wear the yellow one when they wear a yellow shirt? Cause that'd be so cool if they did.
