In some places & people I guess yeah. But in my family we go to church on Christmas Day or Eve & it's just really about spending time with each other.

I love christmas. I wouldn't be bothered if I didn't get a single present, it's just a good time when the whole family comes togethor (although we do it just about every week lol) without the stresses of work/college.

I love it :D

Depends on the person and what aspect youre talking about. The gifts? Yes, definatly over rated. Theres a movie by Mogan Spurlock (The guy who did Super Size Me) thats coming out about the comercialization of Christmas. Its called 'What Would Jesus Buy?'. Can't wait.

But the festivities themselves, not really. People like it, and its their decision to celebrate. And since much of the world seems to like it, its probably not over rated.

No, because people who are less fortunate/living on the streets have one day they can remember as a good one, plus it's a pretty good occasion for most people all round.

I agree, it never used to be like this. It was great when I was little, waking up getting excited about the next day with family over and the food, the presents were about as equal. Now it seems children nowadays just want the presents...

Nope, the true meaning of christmas is the presents, celibration and togetherness of friends and family, has been for around 7000 years. Although for the first 5000 it wasnt called christmas

Yes.
There should be no gifts given. Well maybe small ones to say thanks but no big things like now.
It's totally over-the-top and should just be about meeting your family and having a good time.

How the hell can christmas have been around for 7000 years if the whole meaning of it is to celebrate the birth of christ? Were people psychic then and knew he was gonna be born?

Christmas is awesome, but i do think it's over rated a bit now, with decorations going up in the middle of november and christmas stuff in shops before halloween has even finished :s.

I do like spending time with my family in the christmas period and as Seacat said, without the stress of college / work.

christmas has always been about giving & recieving as well as family/food ect, i think most people got excited about getting presents when they were young, i know i did:s

Exactly, it's stupid. It's not even the start of December, yet people seem to be doing such things.

I hate the way the shops use it as an excuse to sell certain gifts overpriced.

Commenting again; I think it's a pretty good idea to get things up early, for different reasons. Some people like to get their decorations earlier, so they're completely prepared for the occasion. Others like to get the "good" decorations before they're sold out, first - just so they know they have them. Pretty complicated, tbh; but I think it's never too early to start the celebrations? :s

Dunno, tbh.

Yer... But just think, A 5 year old see's Cmas decs in the middle of november and nags on about xmas presents when december hasnt even started. I think Christmas has lost its true meaning and what it means to others.

I changed my sig to a Xmas one because its the start off the Christmas Countdown (Advent)

LMAO, you actualy think the celibration of chistmas has anything to do with jesus? lol, Jesus was born in late janurary, but they changed the dates in there books to fit with the already long established "pagan" midwinter festival. The decemeber celibration predates christanty by a long long time, They only changed the dates in the book, becuse people would have celibrated ther pagan one insted of the "jesus" birth one, so it helped with converting "/

I was talking about this to someone the other day. I think Christmas has gotten way too commercial, all everyone worries about is presents. Not saying I just celebrate Christmas to celebrate Jesus' birth and all that, but it's just getting out of hand, no one cares anymore, they only care about what they're going to receive this year.
