England Faces Smoking Ban

Smoking in enclosed public places will be banned in England from 1 July next year, the government has announced. It'll follow Scotland & Ireland in the blanket ban of smoking in public places.

indeed. we had a lectuer on it in college...


all the college teachers already have a plan considering the campus is going smoke free...

at the back of the college is a public footpath where its legal to smoke

Since the teachers smoking room got removed in my school, some teachers go to the pub at break and lunch and smoke there (outside) or some smoke with the students outside the gates... or i know one that does it daily. That teacher's always been weird. He comes in drunk all the time.

That was in Northern Ireland (I think) and they have removed the smoking rooms at Northampton General Hospital and you can't smoke on site either.

It's been Smoke Free inside restaurants and buildings in Canada for 2 years now. They are even passing a law that no one near the outside entrance within a distance of a building can smoke. Good Canadians :)

About time in my opinion

I walked through my town the other day, and I must have seen at least 5 under ten year olds smoking, they really don't realise the damage they're doing to themselves

Will do more harm than good. Look at U.S. prohibition in the 1920's and 30's [Link (
Thats why its called a faith you need faith that God exists)]. Drinking didnt stop, but there was underground and illegal businesses and it caused more problems.

Should be eariler imo... I hate having to sit next to people who stink of cigarettes on the bus... and people always spark up when we're at the bus stop right next to me... I mean cant you go and stand at the other end of the stop?

Sorry, but i'd like to see the police stop me for smoking in the street..

They have far much more important things to do than stop people smoking in public places, and I deffinataly wont stop.

I don't care, our school is a no smoking site anyway and the only one that cares is the headmaster and a FEW teachers..

Most just kind of shout something so we know their coming and can walk away, and then they don't follow us..

But meh, bring on the smoking ban - It wont work Tony Blair.
